Two games - way too many penalties called against Dundas. Good news is it looks like a few reinforcements are on the way according to the article below. Says two D-men. So it likely has to be two of either Dalmao, Mangos and Ennifatti. At least we'll have a full bench of 3 lines and 3 d-pairings.
No mention of any forwards. Heard Stewart is working but wondering what happened to Brett Smith. He didn't play much against Brantford either.
Can anyone from the Mccoys comment?
In a wild four-minute stretch late in the third period against South East Prairie Thunder, the Dundas Real McCoys took a 3-2 lead with a shorthanded goal, then saw it taken away with four penalties against.
The Manitoba squad scored twice in just over two minutes to take a 4-3 win and hand the defending Allan Cup national amateur hockey champions their second loss. The McCoys have a valuable off day Wednesday as they wait to learn who they will play in a quarter-final match on Thursday. Dundas needs to win three games in three days to repeat as Allan Cup champions. A win Tuesday afternoon would not have changed the fact Dundas would have to play a must-win quarter final game on Thursday. Their opponent is yet to be determined.
Dundas general manager Don Robertson and head coach Ron Bernacci were both frustrated shortly after the wild close to the third period.
“The referee from Newfoundland decided he wanted to decide how the game went,” Robertson said, before handing his cell phone to Bernacci.
Three different Dundas players were handed penalties within three minutes, with a fourth added less than four minutes later.
“They put us down two men and we scored a short-handed goal,” Bernacci said. “Then they were able to tie it up and they got a tip to go up 4-3”
Bernacci was disappointed in what he described as officiating that put the short-staffed McCoys “behind the eight ball” in both round robin games this week.
“Every time we got a power play, they put us in the box,” he said. “We never had a full power play.”
He pointed to the stand-out play of veterans Shawn Snider, who gave Dundas a short-lived 3-2 lead with a shorthanded goal with five minutes to play in the third period and Dan LaPointe, who put Dundas up 2-0 early in the second period.
Mike Amodeo scored the only goal of the first period, putting Dundas up 1-0. LaPointe and Jordan Foreman assisted.
“The guys came out hard in the third period. They were determined,” Bernacci said.
For the first time in two games, Dundas outshot an opponent over a full period – topping the Prairie Thunder 13-10 in the final period.
Dundas goalie Mike Mole stepped up again, stopping 52 of 56 shots Tuesday afternoon after stopping 61 of 66 shots the day before.
The Real McCoys will have all day Wednesday to re-group and re-focus, and hope to put the frustrations of Monday and Tuesday behind them.
A couple of extra defencemen are expected to arrive Wednesday to support the four back-end skaters Dundas has had the past two games.
