Is there any truth to the rumor kenora is foldig. Because there has yet to be any releases that I have seen in either of the two Kenora newspaper sources, I would simply suggest that you may well be on to something which needs to be confirmed officially. I also have reason to believe that subject to said confirmation, that the resulting ramifications would be (a.) that this years's winner of ACH will go directly to the Allan Cup tournament (meaning a reduction in cost outlays and logistics arrangements that are otherwise a signifcant factor for the Renwick Cup just prior to the Allan Cup , and (b.) that an alterative site will be determined for the 2017 Allan Cup Tounament.

B As much as I hate the set up for AC qualifying for some teams it doesnt mean I don't respect the efforts many put into operating under trying conditions. Kenora was an example of that, Bryan and his crew worked hard at operating the former Stanley Cup Champions. They needed games and a build up to the Allan Cup me thinks. Any time we lose a team at our level it's a bad day for hockey. Regards Don Robertson

It is with deep disappointment that I can confirm that the Kenora AAA Senior Thistles have decided to cease hockey operations for the 2015-2016 season. We no longer feel that we can continue to operate a viable and competitive team due to the present structure in place for senior hockey. As you all know the past few years have been a struggle for us to arrange games. Even when we have scheduled games we have had to cancel them for a variety of reasons. The lack of games and the lack of confidence in anything changing in the short term has led us to this very difficult decision. Although we feel that we have maintained a competitive and nationally respected reputation as a team and organization, the challenges that continue make it more difficult for us to recruit not only players but sponsors and of course a fan base. We have asked on several occasions to discuss this situation with Hockey Canada and even suggested a Summit with a number of the long term operators across the country but have gotten nowhere. I do think our leaders of senior hockey at Hockey Canada care but they just do not have any power within the overall organization that just does not care about senior hockey. We would be prepared to participate in any dialogue or meetings to save Senior Hockey and its national championship. Less than 10 years ago there was over 40 teams, now we have approx.16.I think that this is a warning sign. If it gets to the point where we have two small leagues and a couple independents it would be debatable if this really remains a national championship and that is extremely disappointing! We have had a good run and we have very much enjoyed meeting with many of you at the Allan Cup and several Renwick's. We have had some great hockey games and healthy competition, some lively discussions and even shared a few beers! We wish you all the best and who knows maybe someday we will be back! Signed- Yours in Hockey GaryF- President, Kenora AAA Senior Thistle Hockey Club P.S. soon I am sure you will hear directly from the Best Damn GM in senior hockey!

Gary We have seldom agreed on structure of the Allan Cup but never on Kenora's commitment to the Championship, I hate to see good people have to say uncle and yes there are few teams left for a number of reasons which we know all too well. You and Bryan and the Kenora group deserve a round of applause for what you have done to keep the Thistles alive. When we heard last Wedensday night it was with mixed emotions I look forward to your return under better circumstances Kindest Regards Don Robertson

Thanks Don, you are right we never really agreed on much but I for one, always enjoyed the discussion, and always felt at home in your arena.

Would it be possible to have a small league consisting of 3 Manitoba teams and Kenora?
Nothing complicated. Home and away series between all teams (play each team twice). 8 game regular season plus two playoff rounds (best of 3 or 5?).
Start after Xmas. Winner advances directly to AC!
I also like idea of going down to four teams at AC.
West (BC/Alb/Sask) Central (MB/HNO) East (ACH/Maritimes) Host

I DONT THINK MANITOBA WANTS KENORA IN THEIR LEAGUE. WHY SHOULD A TEAM TRAVEL AND HAVE TO COMPETE FOR THE ALLAN ENTRY? WHEN THEY HOST THEY HAVE UP TO 3 TEAMS TRYING FOR THE CUP. WHEN THEY DONT HOST USUALLY ITS ONLY BEEN THE SOUTHEAST TEAM GOING FOR IT.

Trouble would be if BC ever gets back in AAA then Sask teams have a long way to travel. My personal thought is a BC, AB, SK, MB round robin. Then a HNO, ON, Maritime round robin. Then winners of both those tournaments play a Best of 5 (or 3) final in a TO or Calgary.

I have been preaching an East-West series for years and a best of 7 that said 5 could work, now may be that time Don Robertson
