Any news on Smyth's condition. Any chance he will play again in this series.
The fact he is not playing is a huge blow to Senior hockey. More than anything, with hockey expenses increasing astronomically year after year, Senior hockey needs publicity to promote the product. Publicity leads to revenue at the gate, with sponsors, etc. But this publicity is horrible.
The best case scenario for Alberta, and more so for Senior hockey, as a whole, would be for a Stony Plain team, lead by "Captain Canada" Smyth to represent the west at the Allan Cup. No offence to Pat Fallon or Theo Fleury or Steven Rice or Jay McKee to mention a few, but Ryan Smyth at the Allan Cup would likely lead to much needed National media coverage. I can see CBC or CTV covering the tournament.
Lacombe going would be a black eye. The publicity would continue to be about "The Hit". It may actually get National media attention but again not the desired publicity.
I believe I speak for all Canadian hockey fans when I say I wish Ryan Smyth a healthy recovery and we all hope that Stony Plain can pull it out against Lacombe, with or without Smyth.
Again anyone have an update?

16 games seems pretty lite. In the ACH league you now get suspended for the remainder of season & playoffs just for asking the referee how long it's been since he washed his sweater.

But major networks aren't gonna suddenly be picking up games...the only game game televised is AC Finals...and we're ALL a long way from that sill.

Hey, I showed up here because I saw news about the suspension. I'd never even heard of the Allan Cup before. After seeing video of the hit one of the things that shocked me the most was the size of the crowd that showed up to watch a glorified beer league game.
Maybe (admittedly a BIG maybe) I'll even try to catch a game sometime. I bet it's a cool community to be a part of.

THUMPER, ITS FAR FROM A GLORIFIED BEER LEAGUE. SOME OF THE BEST HOCKEY OTHER THAN PRO THAT YOU CAN WATCH. ALL SERIOUS PLAYERS AND SOME EX PROS IN THE MIX. GO SEE A GAME WHEREVER YOU ARE FROM.

The Generals are anything but...model franchise in my eyes along with any other AAA team in the nation that plays in a league and consistently supports AAA hockey by icing a team year after year.

I wasn't saying CBC or CTV would show games live. But I am sure the local Maritime affiliates will be there covering and reporting on games. If Ryan Smyth is there, then that local Network coverage potentially goes National.

Being a model franchise won't bring Ryan Smyth back. Stony wins the series hands down if he plays. So yeah In a way it's a black eye to win that way. Management didn't hit Smyth but Sheen represents them. Agree it would be better if Stony moves forward.
