Figured I would start a thread.
The Army is bruised, battered and back in this bitch after 40 mins.

Congrats to Stony Creek.
The Army handed the underdog 8 PP’s and effectively tilted the hill against themselves & Stony Creek took the gifthorse all the way home.
Stick Taps to the Champs.

SORRY WADE, BUT THE TILTING OF THE HILL EXCUSE WONT WORK WHEN LACOMBE ONLY HAD ONE MORE MINOR PENALTY THAN S.C. NOTHING WAS HANDED TO THE CREEK HERE, THEY EARNED THIS ONE.

Of the penalties Stony Creek took, I can’t think of any that would fall into an “unnecessary” or just plain “undisciplined” variety. Stony Creek didn’t have the legs or energy to do anything extra last night. They played resilient and yes they took a glove hand full of PIMs...but...all in the name of hanging on & battling. The tournament was called tightly all week and to be honest...that’s how I expected it to be called. So, no excuses. The Army earned the semi-final bye and a potentially exhausted opponent in the Finals...but...rather than seize control early in the game they found themselves in the box for most of the opening period and undeniably DID give Stony Creek life. Lacombe battled back to tie the game when Stony really fell apart in the 2nd period but I’m telling ya’ right now...had The Army not strangled themselves in the 1rst period they COULD HAVE used that mid-game surge to take control rather than rally. Stony Creek is the deserving champion.

Congrats to the Stoney Creek Generals on their big Allan Cup win.
Well-deserved and I enjoyed watching them play in Bouctouche last season, (same for Lacombe.)
Also, congrats to Rosetown for hosting the tournament this year and getting the crowds they did. Seemed as if it was yet another successful Allan Cup tournament.

The beauty of your team not competing (Blast) is you can be almost neutral. While I was cheering for SC as I wanted Mr Allan back in Ontario, if Lacombe won, that would have been ok as well.
Anyways, the penalties Lacombe took in the 1st definitely didn't help them any. SC's power play worked. Wade was right about the 2nd period - it belonged to Lacombe. It all came down to the 3rd period. Lacombe still had a chance but when SC scored their 1st empty netter to take a 2 goal advantage, the deal was done.
Still figuring out why that scrap with about 9 seconds left in the game.
I thoroughly enjoyed the final last night.

Very pleased to see that the finals where played by the League Champions from the only 2 Full AAA leagues in the Country, not sure why that pleases me but it does. Winning this event is no walk in the park, it may well be the most difficult way to win a Hockey Canada Championship due to event format. I have tremendous respect for the Western Generals and how they roll, that said glad Ontario finally won on the Road. On another note both these teams come from Leagues that respect Canada's oldest hockey championship enough to name their Leagues after the Allan Cup. Well done Don Robertson

One thing I think we can all agree on is despite the fact both teams were feeling the effects of a busy week of intense action they managed to maintain a brisk pace with plenty of excitement.
I can’t recall an Allan Cup Final with so many odd man rushes, breakaways and acrobatic saves. Plus, lead changes & momentum swings.
Both these teams put a metric ton into preparation and it paid off as an excellent representation the for SR AAA brand between two teams who played together all winter long.
Pretty close to a perfect outcome as far as promoting the product. Even though I desperately wanted to be in the building...and...I was pissed about a few of the glitches I saw in my own team...it was a very entertaining Final.
Stick Taps.

I agree Don...the 2 league champs competing in the Final brought a smile to my face, as well.
Wade, I agree in how penalties affected the game...but it affected both teams, IMO...1st P the western champs were chasing the play and took a bunch of lazy/tired penalties...maybe a bit of rust...2nd P fatigue kicked in a bit and SC were chasing the play, and took a slew of bad penalties. 3rd period was more even up, and pretty fast. I think Lacombe tried, and failed, to maybe be the Bully....SC were the faster team and not too bothered by it. Oodles if talent both ways and a very entertaining Final.
I think the Final game MVP could have been SC goaltender Brown...2 identical saves on clean breakaways where he made the same move, dragging the back foot to shutdown the 5 hole attempt. I think the Donati Twins were the catalyst that drove the SC offense...so slick.

The Army had the semi-final bye and I was more than a bit disappointed by the way they played that first period. Honestly, we were lucky to get a couple calls back in the 2nd because the opening period was a piss poor performance on our part.
