Wondering why the 2020 announcement is so late? Last year Lacombe was awarded the 2019 Allan Cup in mid-January 2018.
Whomever wins next year is now almost two months behind in terms of planning for next years Championship.
Anyone have any insight?

They might be having an issue with choosing a host as it should be Ontario's turn but I had read that the only bid was a joint bid being put forth by Dundas and Hamilton (which was stated earlier in this thread). Hockey Canada may be having an issue with that plan would be my guess. Dundas has hosted the Allan Cup in 2003 and 2014; so don't know why they would be an issue hosting it alone.

Hockey Canada may be having an issue with that plan would be my guess. Dundas has hosted the Allan Cup in 2003 and 2014; so don't know why they would be an issue hosting it alone. The reasoning behind the joint bid is to increase overall attendance. Hamilton and Dundas would automatically be in separate divisions. Then they would each have their two round robin games in “prime time” evening slots. Traditionally the afternoon games in Dundas have been terribly attended. This can also be said for most locations but not to the same extent as experienced here in Ontario. I’ve attended every game in both Dundas Cups as well as the Brantford hosted Cup last decade. And can attest first hand the attendance for the 4pm starts has been sparse in all 3 Cups.

And I should add that many people would not approve of this format. You could not buy the traditional 11 game package and attend all games.
Personally I love going to two games each day. But with this format you would miss half of the round robin tournament, as you cannot be in two places at once ....unless they spread out the tournament by a day or two to allow everyone to attend each game.
My last opinion is you would actually cannibalize each location by having two prime time games at the same time each night.
Most fans attending the Cup go to all games and there are only so many Senior A fans in the area. So this format may actually hurt attendance.
I’m with you Southoftheborder, I would rather Dundas hosts alone. Hamilton does not have a strong fan base. The newly renovated Dundas Arena would be perfect to host next year.

I think Hamilton just dropped a huge hint on Twitter that they’re hosting, whether it will be a joint host or not, I don’t know.

HOW FAR APART ARE THOSE 2 RINKS? By looking at Google Maps, both rinks (Harry Howell Twin-Pad Arena in Dundas and the Mountain Arena in Hamilton) are about 20 minutes apart from one another. But that all depends on traffic.

Harry Howell is in Flamborough. That was the McCoys temporary home while Grightmire (Market St Arena as us locals refer to it as) Arena back in Dundas underwent extensive renovations.
The McCoys will be back home in Dundas for the Allan Cup. So even a little closer to the Steelhawks rink.

I'm hoping to make the trip if Dundas and Hamilton are actually co-hosting next year.

Yes both teams announced today that Dundas and Hamilton will co host. Many options will be discussed.
-Each will have 3 round robin games -3 at Dave Andretchik Arena (Hamilton Steelhawks division of 3 teams will be stationed there) -3 at J.L Grightmire Arena (Dundas Real McCoys division of 3 teams will be stationed in Dundas) - All games will be “Primetime” - Both owners will look at how they can stagger games. This will be key to attendance in my opinion. There is chance of cannabilization if they don’t. The hope is to have at least a few hours difference in starting times....but still keep both games in the evening. You couldn’t do that in the same arena. - Distance between both rinks is less than 20 minutes. - Playoffs. Each arena will host a Quarter Final and Semi Final. Again hopefully with staggered start times. - Issue with staggered times is fans who attend all Allan Cups and want to continue doing so, will likely miss the opening face-off or even a full period of the later game as they travel on the Linc (Hwy between the two arenas). - Final. Both teams say they will wait to see who is in Final. Thus if Dundas reaches Final, then the Allan Cup Championship game would be played in Dundas. Same for Hamilton. - Issue with the above is that TSN generally sets up a day or two in advance. Cameras, TV lines, Trailers, etc. need setup. With semi finals on Friday night, it would be difficult to wait until Finalist teams are determined. Then rush overnight to setup.
Lots of planning to do. Not sure if both teams will setup tents with entertainment.
Will keep you up to date.

While I am glad to see the 2020 Allan Cup come to my neck of the woods again, I am curious to know which team would get the automatic berth into the Cup? 2 host teams.

Terrible logistics for teams to have to load and move equipment especially when they should be focussing on a play-off game. Host(s) would need to come across with pretty good coin and transportation to make it happen!!!
