One thing to contest, though, is your comment about AA teams icing a better product than AAA. If you mean “on ice talent”, you are so far off it’s not funny. All AA teams in Ontario, whether it’s the WOSHL or the outlaw WOAA league, both limit the number of former pros to just 2-3 per team. The McCoys, Steelers, Gryphins are 90% ex-pro. The AA teams would be throttled. Trust me I’ve watched both levels. Maybe Alberta AA doesn’t have a pro level limit? I can’t comment in Ontario. But here in Alberta, the NCHL is (by far) the best Sr league, in terms of stability, talent, consistency, variety, growth, support and respectability. The only thing the Chinook League really has going for it is the ability to use AA players as affiliates. The Chinook teams have not had consistent rosters, they’ve failed to distinguish the league as a superior tier and there is zero chance the league will grow next season Not looking good.

I would agree that the AA league in the province has more depth, quality, and stability. As it shoild be with 8 teams vs 3 teams. I’ll also add that Camrose faced Stony Plain and lost 7-6. Stony only had 12 guys and not many of their best players. So if that shows you roster depth at the AAA level then idk what would. the mistake at the AAA level was trying to rebrand the Chinook league as a AAA only league, with a name change to the ACHW to align itself more with the AAA ACH in Ontario. That made a lot of fans, alumni, and players angry. It actually, in my opinion, filtered out the quality of the league. In terms of the reincarnation I guess you could say of the Chinook league, it is only in its infancy and it’s sad that one of the 3 teams just wasn’t as competitive as they led many to believe. And I’ll just add it’s unfortunate hockey alberta declared them as a AAA team when they registered as AA.
So with that said as long as the Chinook league can maintain that it’s an elite league for the best AA and AAA teams, it shoild so fine. It just has to compete I guess you could say witt already established leagues accross the province. It’s in its infancy so you gotta give it a few years to take hold again and allow the AA teams who want that extra push to take on the challenge.

Just wanted to refresh this thread….someone telling me I know nothing about SR hockey…and me following up with this key prediction:
“There is ZERO CHANCE” the Chinook Hockey League will grow next season.” (My prediction)
Current CHL teams? 2.
And I also expect Stony Plain will NOT have any interest playing in a 2 team league. In fact, in all of Canada, only the Innisfail Eagles would attempt to call 2 teams playing 8 games against one another “a league”.

Looks like it’s confirmed. Powell and innisfail to face off in a 2 game set next week. I would imagine Powell would make a trip back in the new year sometime. Powell and innisfail have recently posted to respective socials it looks like about the series
