Penticton Vees Disqualified from Savage Cup
The Penticton Vees have been disqualified from the Mustang Rentals Savage Cup. The Vees have been disqualified for having an ineligible player on their roster. The coach and player have been suspended and could face a 3 year suspension. The game originally scheduled Thursday March 17 has been cancelled. With the loss of Penticton, the Fort St. John Flyers and the Prince George Mohawks will now play two games with the winner determined by who gets the most goals. The team with the most goals after the two games will win the Savage Cup and face-off in the MacKenzie Cup. The games are schedule for Friday and Saturday night at the North Peace Arena at 8pm. Grant Williams, Coach and Manager of the Prince George Mohawks says the team will have a full roster for Friday and Saturday. They expect at least 8 more players to join the original team for theweekend games. Rob Larson the General Manager for the Fort St. John Flyers says “We are trying and make the bestof a difficult situation by still having the best team move forward. Prince George will have a fullsquad for the weekend, which will help make for some great hockey.” If you have already purchased a ticket for Thursday’s game, you can get a refund Thursday nightfrom 7pm to 8pm at the North Peace Arena or Friday night. Thursday’s ticket will also be accepted at the door for Friday’s game. The Savage Cup is awarded to British Columbia’s senior ice hockey champions each year. This trophy was first presented in 1912-13. The Savage Cup will happen in Fort St. John March 15-19, 2011 at the North Peace Arena.

Why not have a best of 3 starting tonight instead of a 2 game total goals...thats what they do in peewee...doesn't seem right for a Savage Cup!

This was suppose to be the Mohawks night off they won't have a full squad till Friday so that will allow for better hockey for the fans and so the best team will win the Savage Cup

Anyone up for another ride on the Merry-Go-Wrong? Just add this to the big fat file titled: 'I Told You So'. There is very little FSJ or even Prince George could have done to prevent this gong show from happening. That particular ball lies, ONLY, in the bumbling hands of BC Hockey. If BC Hockey legislated some formal requirements for AAA registration, they might have avoided this cataclysm. There is something really wrong with a system which can't even produce 3 properly filled out rosters. Matter of fact...there is something wrong with the entire show when similar foul-ups happen nearly every season, somewhere in the nation. Last year it was HNO. An eerily similar scenario where just 3 teams needed to get together to playoff in a tournament format to declare a branch representative and it all went down the gutter because of a roster technicality. Don't get me wrong...these rules are in place for a reason and they need to be enforced. Thing is...I am certain that if everyone truly recognized the value and necessity of ensuring these specific guidelines are understood and adhered to...we would NEVER have to read about unfortunate outcomes like these. I suggest that...maybe...just maybe...the standard of the 'AAA brand' is not equal in all parts of the country and the trouble spots seem to be located not far from a place we often refer to as 'bushleague'. The high end teams who operate all winter long, year after year...with a professional and passionate perspective...take care of themselves and they DO take care of each other. I commend these teams on a regular basis. I offend people when I point my finger at some of these 'other' organizations/branches...but...the bottom line is the damage and discredit is happening from the bottom end of the food chain. Not the top. My guess is....(again) all the trolls who follow my posts from forum to forum...will not be heard from here. It doesn't matter. I know what I am talking about and really...it doesn't make me feel any better typing up a rant about it. I get frustrated because I feel like there are some simple changes that could and should be made and we keep going around on this same 'Merry-Go-Wrong'.

I follow your threads and hang on to every word almost. Does this make me a troll?.....which you have suggested in the past! The situation there at the Savage Cup is unfortunate 'indeed'. I sincerely hope the loss of revenue doesn't impede FSJ from meeting any of their future payrolls. So Mr. Cherry, have whatever fun you want with this. That's all I'm doing. I'm just trying to lighten you up because you sound really really mad today. I mean as in angry. I am kind of angry myself today. My Dundas eliminated Brantford last night in the semi final, leaving me with nothing to do but travel this after noon all the way to Norwood for game #6 of what has become one hell of a series against Whitby. Presently Norwood leads 3 games to 2. P.S. I'm leaving shortly and will back sometime after midnight. I will be expecting to see your "last word" at that time. Please don't let me down. Love Munzie

Without knowing the technical detail on this ruling, its difficult for me to guess the depth of this ruling.
If it were me calling the shots...I would have a time line arranged in such a manner to ensure every single roster player/coach and manager has been properly registered before the tournament begins.
I cannot even fathom why or how grown ass men who are supposed to be proactive leaders for these hockey programs are unable to see the need to have a protocol in place which effectively eliminates 'loose screws' like what has happened here.
As it turns out...such a protocol is not in place.
Therefore...It is 100% up to each team to do the best they can to make sure they have a roster in compliance and there is not a 'pre-check' to validate a hockey roster before that roster completes a 'sanctioned game'.
I ask: How can you have a sanctioned game without people to proof read sanctioned rosters before a game is played?
It shouldn't be this way...but...it is. So, moving right along....
I believe it is legislated... any team deemed in non-compliance, will forfeit the right to be compensated for their travel, along with any game results.
Thats as close as it gets to common sense. It isn't perfect by any stretch but its written in the little pocket book and its up to each team to study, understand and comply with that pocket book.
I don't have a problem with a smart ass response every now and then. As long as the people responding are able and willing to read and understand the simple gist of what I have to say.
Munzie is an intelligent person with a sense of humor. If I have forgotten this (once) in the past....mibad.
There are a few others who 'troll' my posts who are NOT intelligent. They misquote and misrepresent me, spreading rumors, asking questions without listening to accurate answers when I pass them out like candy.
The bottom line is...I anticipated problems with Penticton for good reason.

BC hockey has indicated that they will put some stipulations in place to prevent "Fly by Night" teams from going AAA there 1st year of operation which has been the case in the last 2 years with Whitehorse and Pentiction. The rules should indicate that any team wanting to go AAA must meet the following regulations: 1. Been regtistered with BC Hockey the previous season and played a minimum of 6 games 2. Post a $5000 bond to BC Hockey that we be held and dispersed to a host team if any visiting team shows up with less then 15 players or for any other reason do not finish the tournment. 3. Any team wishing to host the Savage Cup must have been registered AAA the previous season

flyer, Do you have information on what exactly happened to result in this ruling? And... How did BC Hockey determine to go to a 2 game total goal series as the solution? Total Goal format seems (to me) just a needless complication in an already messed up scenario. Any-Hoo...I am off to catch the bus for Fort Sask. Should I ask our General Manager if he has properly filled out all his paperwork before this game?

ya know, there is some real blame to be placed on the branch here...and other branches in the past.
Until the dolts and dullards in charge of the various branches actually take the initiative and stop approving player cards when it comes time to register and pay for the privilege, only to turn around and rule a player ineligible after some stupid protest later on.
it's an idiotic system run by idiotic people. The onus is on the various federations to rule up front on every card signed, at the time it is submitted, so everybody knows where they stand. This ridiculousness that occurs every year with teams taking the cheap way out and pointing fingers at their rivals and playing games in the board room, rather than just getting down to focusing on winning games on the ice.

It is up to the teams to make sure there rosters are completed properly in this case it was out right fraud as Penticton played an unregistered player using the name of a registered player!

Wade i agree 100% well said.
Speaking of Whitehorse, does anyone know what ever happened to them. Did they fold or simply not go AAA this year.

Figured I would refresh this thread for anyone who wanting to follow up on what I was trying to remind everyone of in another thread.
It’s quite a few years ago now and I can’t remember, specifically, who “flyer” was. I remember Paul, Daryl & Blaine all being heavily involved with the Flyers and all posting here under anonymity while privately communicating with me in deeper detail on various topics over the decades. Yes. Decades! And ya, FSJ lost their asses on this particular screw up. As did a few other people, IIRC.
Again, nothing to do with paying players & everything to do with Fly By Nite teams sullying the waters for the truly invested clubs
