You where the one suggesting 10-12 games schedule not me So you want those three teams to playoff for one or two spots? Ya...I'm saying...personally I LIKED the idea of a shorter regular season skeddy...but...only if the open dates can be filled with meaningful games against quality opponents. And from what I can see...that's not possible.

The reason that won't happen is money. A round Robin tourney for those teams would cost way to much and no one would enter. Having a team play together all year and be battled tested should be an advantage not a disadvantage Hmmm...how much do you think a 24 game schedule + 2 best of 7 playoff series + an Inter-Branch series costs? Answer: Less than the proposed round robin tournament. Much, much less. Exactly. Compounding the issue as well is doing it consistently year after year.

I do realize this horse is in severe pain and near comatose.
But...there ARE ongoing efforts to try and change things.
About a year ago...I backed off on the soap box because it seemed that if certain rules were "on the table" it was going to mean losing a bunch of teams who view any attempt to change - as an ultimatum attempt to get rid of them specifically & systemically.
Thing is...even with the rules as they are...we're seeing less teams register each year & some of the teams dropping out were actually in most ideal situations to use/abuse the rules.
So...what are we protecting by refusing change?

Wade how would you have all teams qualify for the allan cup?

I would first require a summertime registration deadline for ALL SR AAA teams in Canada.
Once the total amount of SR AAA teams was confirmed I would draw up a format based on how many teams were actively contesting & where the teams were located.
I would also have commitment windows branch to branch to attempt to ensure some consistency. For example: Quebec has not sent a team since 2008. But...every year we sit & wait with their pending possible return. Why not draw a line across a 2,3 or even 5 year block and confirm that Quebec is NOT contesting SR AAA?
With this confirmation...we could go ahead and lock the tournament into a FOUR TEAM FIELD for the next few years...which is what it SHOULD currently be.
A 4 team field is fairly easy to elect finalists for:
1: PACIFIC 2: WEST 3: ONTARIO 4: HOST
ALSO...Northern Ontario should be competing against Manitoba...under the WEST Region banner. Along with SK.
The HOST position could be filled by ATL this year & vice versa when ATL is NOT hosting.
This gives us assurance the entire tournament field has to "win to get in".

Ya that could work as a four team tourney Do you know if Lloyd is ever going to be back in AAA I have no reason to think LBK will return. I can only hope that someday in the not too distant future someone in Lloyd' could play a major role in bringing a SR AAA league to SK There isn't a really good reason why they don't have a 4-6 member SR AAA league.

what about Atlantic?
or would that road go through ON, with HNO then competing in WEST?
I would love to see the return of the Best-of-7 final between east and West, and each stage played ut with at least a best-of-5 in order to get there.
that means every team has a stake in the PROCESS, and just does not arrive at the AC.
Bentley would have to go through their league, then BC, then the winner of MB/SK to play in the final series. Dundas would have to win their league, beat Kenora and then an Eastern rep (Nfld/NB winnr) for the right to compete in the Finals.

Clarenville now rumoured to have signed a pro player from the LNAH who is actively contracted in that league while (already) listed to an allotment on Clarenvilles 28 man roster.
Wow.

Is the Clarenville rumoured player - Alex Bourrett? He played a few games for Clarenville while one of their imports was hurt. I assumed he would be joining Clarenville for AC play when the import restrictions were removed. www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=10877

I assumed he would be joining Clarenville for AC play when the import restrictions were removed. Host teams have a lot at stake financially so they want to make sure they have a legitimate shot to win. www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=10877Wade - it seems like other teams are loading up on ringers including you guys too. I noted that US player Kevin Ulanski that Bentley signed has put up some massive numbers. www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=15344Is this good for the fans short term? Absolutely it is! I'm not sure if actions like these are good for senior hockey long term though given the travel and/or incentive costs required to bring guys like this in.

It's possible the player in question is Alex Bourett. Can't Confirm at this point.
His eligibility for Allan Cup play would/should be decided by one key factor: Whether or not he participated in professional games after January 10th.
I'm not sure the current status on Ulanski. He hasn't played in a couple weeks & I was under the impression neither party was interested in full time commuting from USA.
Is it a good idea? I think that comes down to affordability. I don't have a problem with some teams being able to afford things other teams cannot. I do have a problem with teams doing things THEY cannot afford to do.
I think...by applying this adage to operational philosophies...were NOT in danger of these "long travel" imports becoming a repeating occurance.
I also think...SR AAA teams should be given some freedom to explore certain possibilities, should they have a long term & reasonable plan in terms of workability. This is what The Army was exploring with Ulanksi and like I said before...I'm not clear where the situation is at right meow...
What I DO know is...The Gens have activated Taggart Desmet. I expect he will be full time the remainder of the season & it might not be a stretch to assume this would affect the need for Ulanski going forward.

A poster claiming to be responsible for the Clarenville signings is saying the 'Bous actually have TWO players from the LNAH. Both currently playing in that league.
He's also claiming Hockey Canada doesn't recognize this league as any sort of entity and that these players are eligible to play in an Allan Cup.
This league is a PRO league. As per Hockey Canada's definition.
And Hockey Canada declared it to be a PRO league after 2004.
Not sure where Clarenville gets their information/advice from...but...any SR AAA team who wished to file a grievance on the Bous roster being "in compliance" would have an air tight case.
The Bous' have wasted 2 spots on their 28 man roster...at best...at worst...they could be in a pile of ka-ka.
