allancup.pointstreaksites.com/view/allancup/allan-cup-hockey-news/news_535453CAMBRIDGE, Ont. - Tom Strauch, Commissioner, Allan Cup Hockey announced June 14 that a new league received approval and sanctioning from the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) and Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF). The focus of the league is on Junior players displaced by COVID-19. We saw a need and filled it, said Strauch. We know the impact of physical activity on mental health and wellness. The league will fill a void and become the Senior AA Division of Allan Cup Hockey, a complement to the current Senior AAA league. The difference will be Senior AA will not permit ex-Pro players. Coined the G-League, it will serve players aged 21 to 28 with a focus on graduates of OHA Junior hockey programs. The OHA currently has three Junior leagues within its jurisdiction--PJHL, GOJHL, OJHL. These leagues have players aging out of eligibility at 20 or 21 leaving them with few places to continue a competitive hockey career if they haven’t been picked up by the CHL, USports, or NCAA. Senior AA teams will be affiliated with Senior AAA teams, says Strauch. Age eligibility affected a large number of Junior players during the 2020-21 season when the season was taken by COVID-19 leaving some players without hockey in their final year of eligibility.
