First of all...Ive never given any indication that I WOULD be "surprised" if ATL took the Allan Cup home again this year.
The first time through (2010) would be the only time I would hold an ATL team to a lower standard than other tournament teams.
Once that trial run was/is out of the way...they become a legitimate contender in any tournament they appear in. Just like everyone else.
And as for any questions regarding the fiscal success of teams in the Herder Cup...come on!!!
Don't even try to promote these clubs as anything less than at least financially comparable to any other SR AAA squad in the nation.
Truth be told...other teams (rightly or wrongly) accept the potential they will operate in the red in an Allan Cup inclusive budget.
The Newfies are dead against this...and I respect the fact they have the common sense to stonewall any attempts to get involved with something that will cost them more money than what they'll ever bring in. Thats the way a team SHOULD conduct their financial choices!
But the thing is...if everyone made the same choice...there would be no Allan Cup.
This is the jist of my argument.
I say: Suck it up and play it straight up or as close to straight up as you possibly can in the grey murk we know as SR AAA hockey.

Lets wait & see who they actually use in the Allan Cup. And...lets not bullshit each other. The guys they add are going to be top players. And...lets not bullshit each other. The argument isn't so much abour affiliates. The argument is the Newfies shouldn't be getting a different qualifying format than anyone else in the country. Pretty simple. Don't get me wrong....there are other problems with other branches....Im not picking on the Newfies. Really, Im not. Still...it had to be said. First off all profits from the Herder Finals will be revenue shared between the 5 teams in the league. So if they take in 75K thats 15K for each team. Wade the NL senior teams would love and welcome any playdown format to qualify for the AC. It is not our fault nobody else in atlantic canada cares to start a league or put together a team. Either way expect a strong team from the east coast this year and dont be suprised if the AC comes back to NL once again. The Cataracts play 12 home games a year and sell out the 945 seats and 300 standing room for each game at an average of $10 per head or about $144,000 revenue per year not counting sponsors or beer sales revenue. My best guess on beer profits would be an easy $4000 per game or $48000 per year. That's $192,000 from fans and the Caribous have an equal situation. Lets add to that at least 2 games at $15K and 2 games in the Pepsi Center at $10K. That would be $50K extra or $240K per team not counting regular league playoffs and sponsors. Hands down the most fan and beer revenue in Canada. The teams on the rock have no idea how fortunate they are.
