GFW Cataracts Announce they will play in 2016 Allan Cup unless another Atlantic Rep comes forward.... www.gfwcataracts.com/index.php2016 ALLAN CUP ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. Stan Coffin, President of the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts, has announced that the team has declared its intention to compete for the 2016 Allan Cup in Steinbach, Manitoba. If no other Atlantic team declares then the Cataracts will head directly to the event in Steinbach. Otherwise there will have to be a regional playoff. The Cataracts earned the right to compete for Canada's National Men's Championship by winning the Herder Memorial Trophy this past season. The Cataracts recently competed for the Allan Cup in April of this year, losing in overtime in the semi final.

Last year teams started with 12 and 13 players, by the end they had 18, 19 players,,,some were not on their roster all year so i guess that would be considered stacked team. IMO and others

It's not really clear what GFW would decide to do if some other ATL team ponied up for an Allan Cup push.
Are they open to the idea of putting their 2016 Allan Cup spot on the line this March?
Or...
Would they simply hand over the ATL spot to another team...ideally preferring NOT to spend the $$$ to get to Steinbach?
Probably all moot...I highly doubt Lameque or anyone else out that way will have any serious interest.

They ( NB) thought they did well and wiillbe able to compete now that they know what it takes. We'll see though. Don Robertson

Don,
I think...cost & the aforementioned lack of clarity on ATL's Allan Cup qualification system could be enough to deter Lameque.
I think the NB league could utilize affiliate players to send a solid contestant to the Allan Cup tournament...but...it will be damn near impossible to get everyone involved into an agreeable & workable Inter-Branch playoff format.
I think...until more structure is in place...potential new entrants will be very shy toward future Allan Cups.

Powell River wants to host Coy Cup. Technically...they have until October 15th to declare SR AAA. I can't find anyone or anything to indicate they have any intention of doing so.

I have not heard anything official about returning to AAA but it would not surprise me. Regals had a good group of players on their AA team last year. If they do return to AAA, I think they will also field a AA team.

This was posted on nlhockeytalk.ca :
The Cataracts have been informed that Lameque, N.B. has registered for Allan Cup play in 2016. This would necessitate a playoff between the Cataracts and Lemeque to determine the Atlantic representative. The details of this playoff are being discussed and there will be an announcement once everything has been finalized.
