Great news for Ontario senior hockey. This type of league should have been done many years ago.

They have been attempting this for 4 years now.... Perhaps this time they have got some actual teams and traction to the idea

Having a lower level league to draw possibly capable players from to help teams in a higher level league is a traditional arrangement...but...it is still a far cry from what SR AAA teams in most branches are able to do nowadays.
I can't attempt to predict what the level of play in an Ontario Intermediate League might be...but...If it ends up as a full contact beer league...(which it might) then I would hope SR AAA teams have the good sense NOT to AP a bunch of luke warm pieces of meat for high end pros to feast on. That's how kids get hurt.
On the sunny side...it seems to me that in Ontario...Intermediate Hockey ought to parallel with most of what we in Alberta call "SR A" hockey and from that level of hockey a SR AAA league can scrape a few good men off the top of the canister.

From what I've seen some of the top teams in WOAA could compete on a given night.

Hey Wade you might want to keep your thoughts to yourself since you know nothing about Intermediate Hockey in Ontario. The top teams often compete for players that the AC teams want. This ain't no beer league and by having the OHA start a rival league things could get interesting.

Now it's a "rival" league?! I highly doubt the OHA...even as narrow sighted as they can sometimes be...would ignition a league to compete against the only functioning SR league under OHA sanctioning body. I suggest the press release be taken at full face value when the OHA described Intermediate Hockey as a separate & distinct entity which could supplement the ACH with a few players...rather than draw players away from the ACH. Mind you...maybe it backfires and that's exactly what happens? Ya' never know.

Wade I cannot speak for "grapes" but I believe he is talking about the new OHA Intermediate league potentially being a "rival" to the existing "outlaw" WOAA Senior A league...not the ACH...especially since their main focus will be along the shores of Lake Huron - which coincidentally is where a majority of the WOAA teams are located.
My educated guess is some of the Outlaw league teams may cross over to the new league next year.

Not sure it's designed to steal teams from the WOAA but to bring back the old Int B league ( I was a young Ref at 20 in that League ) which would now be a Hockey Canada/OHA Sr single A League. Thant said I'm sure if WOAA teams wanna jump they can. When I started in 1982 it was with the Rockton Real McCoys that Int B league and we had some former Pro's that we affiliated up to Sr teams I'm sure it would work that way again. Cheers Don Robertson

Wade, do you realize the guy that hammered that one timer past the generals tender for the winning goal in the allan cup last april plays in a senior A league . Correct. As did several other SEPT players. Because Manitoba doesn't have any SR AAA league, or games for that matter, these SR A players are the highest (and lowest) tiered amateur players in the province. And SEPT had uninterrupted access to all of them. What's your point, Tom?

Wade, my point is even if mb had a triple a league guys would still play single a because that's what keeps the small town teams alive . Manitoba should have a AAA league but the A teams would be reduced.
