There have been some strange twists to this tournament so far.
You can't say its 'shocking' when an outcome of ONE GAME doesn't jive with a prediction...but... there have been a few games which many of us mis-guesses thus far.
I doubt anyone can say they've nailed every single prediction. I know I can't.
Clarenville is in a good position. They played well in 2 round robin games and while they are not as experienced as Dundas...they do have an extra day off and maybe even a hot goalie going into this afternoon's 1rst semi-final.
I'll throw a guess and say Clarenville gets through.
Tonight's match up is even more surprsing. Fort Frances put together a huge effort against their hated rivals to eliminate a HOST team in the quarter final round. A very rare feat for sure.
I think the extra day off will (again) pay dividends. It seems to be a factor every game. There is a reason for that!

You never know what can happen when you have one game play like this.
I would love to see Clarenville make the finals. This would be a huge step forward.

On fading legs...Dundas needed to score early (IMO) and they almost did.
Kennedy had a tap-in try on a Dundas' PP in the 1rst period. He mis-aligned, hitting the goalpost, instead. Jooris had a couple of looks as well...and while 'Father Time' is still able to find chances...his hands were way too slow to convert against Churchill.
In the end...Clarenville was the better of the today. They had more speed, more determination and better goaltending.
The 'Bous hit guys in stride and they move their feet.
Dundas...passes to people standing still and then make 3 or 4 extra passes to accomplish what ONE GUY could do if he would just...SKATE.
This is a recipe for yummy turnovers. Great big, steaming, pizza sized turnovers.
You might get by with a slowish period or two..or even an entire game...but it never fails...eventually...someone bobbles something at the wrong time.
Thats what happened in the 3rd. Clarenville was right there to poke-check a loose, lazy Dundas breakout apart.
Game over. The McCoys were NEVER going to find the legs to rally. Churchill was (again) untested with a lead.
Clarenville has not come uncoupled at any point this far. They're a young team (by Allan Cup standards) and it must be an easy sell for the coaches to get them to work hard and be disciplined after they carried their own asses all the way back to the rock via FSJ last April. The sting of defeat has led to a sweet return this time around.
They definatley deserve to be in the Final.
And as for tonight....its 2.5 hours til puck drop and things are very quiet around Army Camp. The Generals don't have a history of taking anyone lightly. So, I'm not surprised they're all business here today.
;D
