Figured I'd start a thread about what teams will be playing Senior Hockey next season and who won't be so we can get away from all the name calling in some other threads.
Been a few rumors this season that the Brantford Blast would closing up shop at the end of the year. Doesn't appear that way based on an interview with Blast owner Peter Ham. They are ramping up for there 15th season and Season Ticket packages should be out shortly.
I'll update the main post as teams are thrown into each category.
Returning -
Brantford Blast - ACH Stoney Creek Generals - ACH Dundas Real McCoys - ACH Hamilton Steelhawks - ACH Thorold Athletics - ACH Whitby Dunlops - ACH
Lacombe Generals - CHL Innisfail Eagles - CHL Stony Plain Eagles - CHL Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs - CHL Rosetown Redwings -CHL
Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts - CWSHL Corner Brook Royals - CWSHL Clarenville Caribous - CWSHL Gander Flyers - CWSHL
Rumored to Return -
Rumored to be Folding -
Folded -

We do a thread like this every summer and it almost always ends up being useless as teats on a boar.
Don't get me wrong, Andrew, I'm all in favour of a ceasefire on the launching of any future arsenals of personal insultage...but...if we have learned anything in SR AAA warfare...it must be that you/we "never believe anything until we see the whites of their eyes"
It might be more useful if we could get a few KEY off-season dates/meetings noted in order to construct an off-season timeline.
- Provincial AGM's - National AGM's -League Meetings/Schedule calls - 2018 Allan Cup announcement
...Just a few of the things to be looking out for...

AFAN,
That's fine if the information is accurate, the informer identified and/or the source is reliable:
However, many times "unknown bombers" drop totally fake/false information into these discussions. Sometimes, it could even be done deliberately as a way of trying to discredit or disrupt certain teams/people from their primary operations. Brantford has been targeted almost every off-season since they returned in 2010 and it seems to me not once in that time have any of those posts ever been substantiated, nor have any of the people dropping those posts ever clarified or confirmed their true identities.
Granted, I was guilty of similar speculation last year when I mentioned Fort Sask, possibly moving to Leduc...but...my true identity isn't hidden here, that information came from multiple sources and as soon as I found out the team wasn't moving...I updated the information.
Furthermore, we also sorted through conflicting reports regarding Okotoks and Rosetown several times last summer. Here again...I was doing my best to source check my information...but...all SR AAA teams walk a daily tightrope. One day...they're in...the next day...they're not returning texts and the day after that...they're done. I don't feel these situations evolved the way they did out of malice or utter unprofessionalism...but...It pissed me off that I tried to track the stories and ended up making people appear dishonest or disorganized. That's not my intent and it doesn't help the brand.
The bottom line is...SR AAA teams can & do fold in the middle of any given season.
Maybe someday we get to a point where we can hold an official off-season meeting and when its adjourned...we've got certainty? Not this year, folks.

^ Fort Sask was rumored to move last year, then I heard they put it off for another year. Who knows.
Wade, do you foresee more teams joining the Chinook? Whether it be AA teams like you mentioned (Daysland, Big Valley, Bonnyville) or maybe a resurrection of Okotoks, Sylvan (long shot, but they weren't out too long ago), etc...
Thoughts?

I'm trying to "gently" enquire around about what's maybe in store for next season. The Generals haven't even had a chance to have their Allan Cup parade yet...so...it's a bit pushy of me to start asking about next season. I've asked for a timeline on Allan Cup HOST process for 2018 and I THINK...a lot of dominoes are likely waiting for that key decision to be made. We expect AC18 to be coming to Alberta. Also...keep in mind...In Alberta it is NOT mandated that a SR AAA team play in the Chinook Hockey League. So...at this time...if Alberta gains another SR AAA team for next season (or the season after that) it might be more reasonable to expect this team to play in a 'AA' league and then jump up to 'AAA' for Provincial Playoffs. As for Sylvan & Okotoks...I'm 99% sure we've seen the last of Sylvan Lake at the 'AAA' level. It seems to me...if the Generals didn't want to move the most succesful SR AAA team in the history of the Provicne into Sylvan Lake...and a hearty past attempt to operate a team there has FAILED...the bridge will NOT be crossed again. And Okotoks...I asked about the "leave of absence" they took possibly being lifted...and I was laughed at. . That announcement...was never a one year thing, folks. It was a permanent death to be sure. Just got a text back regarding 2018 AC as I type this: I'm being told "later this year"...so no hard date at this time.

June 11th is the first off-season meeting for the Chinook Hockey League.
There is a decent possibility the league will announce a new President at that time.
Also some whispers of teams being interested in joining the league...but...long way from name dropping at this time.

So looks like brantford will be looking for a new tender as bret has jumped ship to stony creek another rebuild year The Lieutenants' are obviously NOT content with ACH success. If that were the case, they already have a proven goaltender, good enough to win games in December & January. But after being tied to the whipping post in Steinbach...the new top dog of the ACH has obviously realized that success on their own porch isn't any kind of reason to go running out into the prairie, howling at the big wolves. Nope. Brantford might or might not be rebuilding...but...SCG has a lot of fixing to do before they're gonna compete with top SR AAA clubs and I'd say this is ONE MOVE in that direction.

Any word on Rosetown playing CHL this year? After last years move...I highly doubt they're welcomed back. Wade may more about this than I... But pulling out week or so before the year started, after the schedule has been made. Hmm

Any word on Rosetown playing CHL this year? I've heard from multiple sources the Rosetown Red Wings are once again a possible CHL entrant this season. Certainly we've learned from past mistakes enough to now wait until we see the whites of the eyes before believing anything

Being Sask is hosting AC 2018...they propably need to compete in this league to prepare. Sure they will do whatever is needed to gain entry.
