Senior AAA News
The dates for this are October 1-3 in Innisfail again. With Rosetown joining the mix officially. The Chinook website is back up to date with more information, including a commissioner change.
Senior AA News
The NCHL lost two teams, Drayton Valley and Tofield, with Big Valley relocating to Eckville, being known as the Eckville Eagles. Sure are a lot of Eagles in senior hockey in AB!
Looks like the Ranchland league remains the same, with no team changes, but searching for a new commissioner.
No information changes on the NPHL website, so can't comment on that.
SaskAlta league site has not been updated either.

www.lacombeglobe.com/2016/08/12/longtime-general-named-teams-new-head-coachI'm a bit surprised Aust-On-A-String was ready & willing to retire from active duty in the trenches...but...very thankful he's decided to take over coaching duties. I think...it's very important this team be coached by someone who understands the dynamics here and very few "outsiders" could have that kind of insight. Curtis Austrings' SR AAA career is tough to equal. Three Allan Cup titles and he was a vital contributer on each of them. He retires near the top of the all-time points list in the CHL as well as all time games played in Allan Cup tournament play. Ken Richardson is a local guy who played extensively in various pro leagues. I don't expect him to be anything less than a near equal to Austring on the bench

The Lacombe Generals have been spooling out quite a list of incoming soldiers for the first mission under the new name.
A brand spanking new D pairing just graduated from an NCAA DIV 1 school. A few new forwards with plenty of pro experience and a couple more not yet made official. I don't think anyone would expect less..but...The Army appears To once again be making this a warp speed rebuild

Wow...what a long list of unfamiliar soldiers The Army are riding with right now...
I recognized ONE D-Man and a few forwards....every other jersey had a new name on the back.
The new recruits used a full bench to wear down the Wings (13 skaters) and although Rosetown jumped to an early 2-0 lead...it was easily erased in the 2nd period and all downhill from there....7-2 final.
But...don't be fooled...The Army was playing their 4rth exhibition game of the fall...against a short bench squad just starting their season.
The Wings will end up doing at least ok...maybe even quite a bit better than just ok...if they can build on this weekend.

Inny beats the defending Allan Cup Champs this afternoon, 4-2.
The Army kept hammering away but couldn't complete the rally after going down 3-0 early.
Inny has a leg up on the CHL early this season with ample amounts of returnees and a sour buzz still lingering after getting beat last spring.

Early predictions show "some" parity in the Chinook League as far as I can tell with Ft Sask needing some depth in their roster to be competitive. Last weekend saw a close game between Rosetown and Lacombe but we all know the difference between travelling rosters vs home rosters. We'll see how Innisfail comes out this weekend as they take on Stony Plain in a home and home match-up. Lacombe faces Ft Sask as well.
