It's a crap shoot as to what the playoff structure is in Ontario. What do the other Sr AAA leagues with 6 teams or more in Hockey Canada do for playoffs ? Take all the time you need.

The stupid playoff format allows you to pull the crap you do every year.
It's embarrassing you guys play with barely 2 lines during the season as everyone makes playoffs. The games I've been to in Dundas this year have saw fan support dwindling. I'm sure they agree with me.
I know this year I'd want to stay in the top 3 to avoid likely opponent Stoney Creek this year.

I had found this on the league website last September:
Format
The fifth and sixth place teams play a one game sudden victory game similar to Major League Baseball's Wild Card Round.
The winner of the "wild card game" advances to play the fourth place team in a best-of-three series with the winner becoming the 4th seed.
The semifinal and final round will still be best-of-seven.
The playoff champion traditionally advances to the Renwick Cup against the Hockey Northwestern Ontario representative in a best-of-three series to determine the Ontario representative at the Allan Cup. This series will not be needed as there are no other Senior AAA teams in the province; so now the Allan Cup Hockey champion will advance directly to the 2017 Allan Cup.
(Found out later on that only the top five qualify so cut out the wild card round)

You know what, the attendance drop in most Senior towns started at roughly the same time that fighting came with an automatic dismissal from the game. The middle-aged fan base has become disenchanted with the way the game is played-virtually no fighting, very few hits, etc. The new generation of hockey fans appreciate fast paced hockey that is now played at most levels. The issue is the new gen has not been introduced to the Senior game-yet. Crowds are generally older at the Senior level. As the years pass, the crowds will come back. In today's version of hockey, the ACH is actually playing terrific, fast paced games for the most part. The crowds will come back. In the meantime, things like having a one-game "wildcard" game keeps the fan bases' interested. Someone mentioned crowds dwindling in Dundas. Can you imagine how much worse it would be if it was already official (or close to it) that Hamilton and Dundas would not be making the playoffs. You'd be lucky to get 50 people per game. The kids' parents may not even come. Haha. Wildcard is a good idea for a few years. Need a 7th and 8th team in other areas outside Hamilton. London and Petrolia coming back would be perfect. Tilsonberg or Aylmer would also help. The ultimate addition to bring back fans would be the Cambridge Hornets. The Dundas-Cambridge rivalry was fantastic. Looking forward to a great playoff and hopefully a full team going to the Allan Cup from Ontario to show how strong the league actually is!

lack of fighting and hitting is an absolute issue in the sr game...this is, sadly, a shadow of the game I, and many fans my age and older, grew up addicted to.

Take all the time you need. that is cute Donny...seeing as you are the only league with 6 teams Ha Ha but the sentiment still stands...the regular season is essentially meaningless...there is nothing to play for...and the players KNOW it. Not eliminating even a single team is ACH's version of every kid...even the shittiest one...getting a participation ribbon. Is it fair to say that, had the bottom 2 teams been in danger of elimination from playoff contention, the McCoys might have found a way to get a few extra bodies to a few extra games, and have a better record than they do now? I am not picking a fight...rather stating my case with concrete examples. Do you think your fan support might be a little stronger with some better showings...attendance and scoreboard wise this season? Fair questions, yes?

I mean...your rationale seems pretty clear and fluid. (Not sure how you managed to achieve that) but I think..."a meaningful regular season" would...at best...be marginally more supported than a meaningless one.

We'll if I had my way the top 4 would be in, that said the top 5 are in with 4 and 5 playing a best of 3 to see advance to the final 4. It's not perfect but it's OK and yes Jim we would likely be better to make it to the top 4 which we still would like to, but the League is nicely balanced except for the team who always has a strong group who never like to mi$$ games for some reason. We have a pretty much a full bench all but cut back to leave 9 cards open Jan 10 and this has cost us the last 2 games ( my call on that ) but that's all. I'd also rather just dress 15 skaters but I don't win many battles at the league level anymore I guess I'm getting old and crazier cheers Don Robertson

I can live with the 4 vs 5 to draw in to the final playoff spot...but shouldn't AT LEAST 6th place be eliminated?
