The GFW Cataracts have a couple big guns lined up for 2017 Allan Cup:
Former NHLer, Tyler Sloan along with 2016 top tournament scorer, Matt Stefanishion have both been enticed into the kitty litter.

No such thing as early favorites...let's wait until the field is set and all the information we can get is available. Way too little to go on at this point... Blind bet for me would be Rosetown I mean...I like Rosetowns' team this year. They're kinda quick. They've got at least one really solid goalie and they've got some size...but...they're simply NOT nearly dominant in the CHL. At all. And that's not a good sign in terms of Allan Cup contention. We've seen many editions of The Army run up far better records than what Rosetowns' putting together this year and still come up short in the tournament. Not saying they can't win it...but...I can't say they'd be a smart bet at this point. Especially w/o even seeing SEPT or IDC rosters. Whom...BTW...are due to HOST the Rathgaber Series at the end of March.

I think Rosetown has looked like one of the best teams in the CHL this season. Their road games are a bit lacking with short benches (13 players this passed weekend), but I would peg them as being much better than their record. Keeping in mind two of their "losses" were due to ineligible players.

Keeping in mind two of their "losses" were due to ineligible players. Define... "one of the best"? I mean...there are 4 other teams. How much space between "one of the best" and "one of the worst" can their be? I mean...if 75% of the tyres on your car are holding air...how does she handle? Ricky Bobby once said..."If you ain't first, your last." It bares repeating here because Rosetown can be better than all but one CHL team and yet I'm not sure that will be good enough to beat whomever comes out of Manitoba. Keeping in mind...I expect SEPT has been quietly seething about last year and have every intention of fully arming themselves for a brutal revenge assault this spring.

I think Rosetown has a better team than Lacombe. Point in case the 6-1 win early in Jan and the 3-2 OT loss last weekend with a 13 man roster.
Doesn't matter though because they don't play playoffs here and like you said they'll have to face Manitoba. So it's a mute point.

I didn't see the game...but...that's a lot of saves, man. The Army has changed out a lot of people this year & I don't think they've peaked...yet. I see some inexperience in the team for the first time in a long time. I also see a lot of skill & passion & deep enough roster to at least qualify the Allan Cup. Rosetown doesn't have to play The Army...but...a big reason why they joined the CHL was to place themselves along side the best possible measuring stick and I'm agreeing with your belief they measure up well. My biggest concern for Rosetown right now is...do they have the ability to defend better and cut down on the SOG they give up? Taran Kozun can't be expected to make 50 saves per game for 3+ games in 3+ nights against MANITOBA.

so R-town wont be participating at all in the league playdowns? how will playoffs work in a 3-team event? 4 Alberta teams: 1: Copy and Paste 2: Stony Plain 3: Innisfail 4: Fort Sask. Playoffs remain as they've been since Okotoks folded. Two best of 7 semis' & winners into best of 7 Alberta Finals. I'm also 98% sure the seeding is what the final standings will look like. FWIW

Wow! How things look similar to the Ontario league that you attacked less than a week ago!
(1) Meaningless regular season - everyone makes it! (2) Short benches for teams.
You could argue that the Chinook league is worse than Ontario given the lack of parity and the fact that one of the better teams won't be in the playoffs!
Who is this Copy and Paste team? I think the usual village name of year's past isn't a part of the league anymore!
