As I text this...the 2018 Allan Cup HOST team is hitting the ice to begin preparations for this season.
Which means...we SHOULD already know who will be hosting AC2019.
The fact that the NEXT tournament is still TBD is more than a little curious.
Maybe it's not even a secret a growing desire to at least consider a format change is afoot.
I'm not sure which is the right move anymore....but...we're running out of time to figure it out.

I thought it was supposed to be Alberta's turn to host in 2019.
I think changing the format to have it so just one team from the other side of the country qualifying (Ontario and Atlantic meet for one spot this year) would be a little more practical finances wise.
The champions of the Senior AAA leagues automatically qualifying should be another option looked at. Have BC, SK, and MB play for a Western spot while the ACHW champs qualify. Have the Kenora Thistles play the Atlantic region champ for another spot while ACH champs qualify. You put in the commitment to play to Senior AAA all season you deserve the reward of qualifying when you win a championship. You could also have the runners-up advance to the qualifying in place of the league champ to attempt to qualify for the tournament.

And from what I'm hearing...multiple SR AAA teams in Alberta are prepared to pass up any chance at being HOST of Allan Cup 2019, preferring instead to make 2019 the first year of an altered Allan Cup format where East would meet West in a best of 5 Finals.
