Great article. Thanks for sharing. The old incarnations of SR AAA hockey here in ON had endless stories just like this, up until the demise of the league in 1987 or so.
The new Sr league, now ACH, provides plenty of good hockey, but from its inception in and about 1999, the physical nature of the game was lost...sadly forever.

Good stuff lokol, thanks for posting. I miss the days of Senior AAA having a good 2-3 scraps per game. Sadly...this is 1 fan who doesn't go to as much games as i used to for that very reason. Here in Ontario...i miss the heated rivalries of Dundas, Cambridge, Brantford, Petrolia, Tilsonburg.

The Chinook League NEVER was close to averaging 3 fights Per Game. I'd put it somewhere closer to 1.5-ish.
IMO...if the current ACHW had a "2 fight rule"...the games would be more honest/classy & safer...and for about the same Fight Per Game Avereage.
Best Fighter we ever had in the Alberta League (among guys who actually scrapped, as opposed to reputable enforcers who never actually fought in CHL, like Angelstad & Pistol Pete).....
Probably Jeff Hansen.

Agreed - the 2 fight rule should be in place. There's a lot of chippy crap that really would be done away with if guys were more accountable. But, alas, we live in a world where fighting is trying to be taken out of the game. Shame really, it puts asses in seats and keeps the guys honest.

1 of the toughest here in Ontario...the "bearclaw"...Steve Barraclough. He could play as well. Reminds me of 1 of the craziest things i have ever seen in a scrap. I remember it clearly...Greg Lovell of the Brantford Blast-or was it the the Brantford Prowl??? Cannot remember 100%...the Squires were winning 1 evening and quite handily. Coach gave Lovell the tap on the shoulder after sitting most of the game. Now...i knew this wasn't going to be good for Lovell as he was a goalie who converted to an out player. I guess he felt 1 of the ways to facilitate this was to try to be an enforcer. Well...Barraclough obliged and after feeding Lovell 6-7 good shots and knocking his bucket off...he decides to take a rest by tying up Lovell arms with his 1 arm-all the while Lovell is frantically trying to free himself-and casually and calmly leans on him like he is standing against a wall somewhere people watching. He then casually reaches around in slow motion like he was adjusting a crooked picture on a wall and un-does his own chin strap to flip his own bucket off. I think he actually felt bad. He then smiled and thru 1 more uppercut to put Lovell out of his misery. I have never seen an arena so quiet in my life after a scrap. Many people didn't know what to think.
