I was looking at the Hockey Canada's Nation Championships webpage and noticed the following that the Allan Cup is listed last. And on the main page they don't even list the Allan Cup as a National championship on the pull down tab at the top of the page you have to hit more events for it to appear.
I guess that sums up how Hockey Canada views the Allan Cup.
The oldest championship under their watch and they treat it like it means nothing.
In the 2017-18 Hockey Canada Annual Report a search of the term "Allan Cup" appears in the document once and its under the year in review, but; ESSO appears 8 times and Telus appears 6 times.
And found this one:
Our Mission: Preserve, nurture, and strengthen the bond between Canadians and hockey.
The Allan Cup even predates the formation of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association by six years.
Prior to the formation of the Canadian National Hockey team who represented Canada at the Olympics and World Championship...the defending Allan Cup champions.
I more than understand that senior hockey has greatly declined in fan interest over time. The advent of television, the expansion of the NHL, and the busy world in which we now live are all major reasons for this decline but you don't just ignore heritage and traditions.
If part of the mission is to preserve the bond between Canadians and hockey, someone forgot to include senior hockey in the equation.
Sorry for this sounding like a rant but this is seriously getting disheartening when year after year teams fall by the wayside and politics are the reason for many teams folding. The Lacombe Generals said they approached Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta and try to address some of the issues and they felt like they were pretty much well ignored. Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador has had issues trying to get teams to play one another over the past few years to the point where fans are questioning if there will even be senior hockey at all in 2019-20 in the province.
