The Orillia Tundras apparently decided they didn't like where they were in the standings. So when a familiar hat showed up behind the visitors bench in Dundas on Friday night, it should have been a hint of what was to come.
After all, it's not like this has not happened before. Blues brother Tom Ruff dawned the now famous and familiar hat, and installed himself behind the bench along with current asst. coach Ryan Crowther. Apparently sensing that the addition of a couple other familiar names might also be a good idea, the new coach reintroduced to the line-up, Leiland Gauley and some old guy by the name of John Vecchiarelli, who I believe is pretty darn close to fifty by now. Wow, would that be the new coaches undoing before things even got going. Hardly! It soon became clear that they were there to lead by example and it rubbed off on the rest of the cast. In particular, it was clear that 'The General' Vecchiarelli, had been preparing for his reappearance. There was plenty of speed in them there legs and it was infectious.
After being down by a score of 3-1 by the middle of the first period, the Tundras then began to take themselves seriously and were tied at 5-5 by the end of regulation. At 3:31 of O.T. the Tundras made no mistake and fired the winning goal to the back of the net. You can guess who fired the final shot. There was no wild celebration to unnecessarily embarrass the home side, but you could tell as the Tundras left the ice, along with the man in the hat, that they were happy they had done well, and rightly so.
I've said it last year. I know they can do well and I would very much like to see it happen. All I can ask, is that they do it in some other rink. Good luck guys, and girl trainer.
