All four of the AAA teams in the Chinook league are within 6 points of each other going into the final weekend of play. Bentley has secured 1st overall (for the provincial standings, Lloyd is in first in the Chinook league), Sylvan can tie them with 2 wins this weekend, but Bentley holds the edge in a tie breaker (and still has one game against Ft Sask). With one win this weekend, Sylvan can drop no lower than 3rd, leaveing Ft Sask and Stony Plain to battle it out and see who gets to go North and play Horse Lake to come in as the 4th seed. No one has much info on HL, but we are assuming they will be stong.
The final game of the regular season will be played next Tuesday between Ft Sask and Stony. And that game could very well determine who goes North, and who play SLA in the first provincial round.
The 4th place team will have a tough road ahead. They will go against HL in a best of 3, and the winner of that gets Bentley in the first best of 7 (semi-final). Both Stony and SLA took 2 wins from Bentley this year, and SLA also beat Lloyd twice as well. They probably have the best shot at knocking Bentley off the top of the hill this year. But it won't be easy. Bentley added a couple guys that will help, and word on the street is that former NHLer Clark Wilm may be showing up for a playoff run. Their weak spot will be goaltending, but their high end D core should make up for it. They are a bit older and a bit slower, a young fast team could give them trouble (SLA).
Ft Sask is pretty much the same team as last year, and can steal a series from anyone. If they end up in the 4th seed, they will give HL all they can handle. If HL loads up and makes it through that first round, the series between them and Bentley could be a beauty. Stony Plain's biggest problem righ now is goaltending. They've had a couple starting guys leave them this year and dropped the ball into the hands of a couple ex Jr B guys. They have definately struggled near the end of the season, but they have enough offense to turn games into a shoot out.
All in all, it's going to get pretty interesting out West. My prediction will be... 1 - Bentley 2 - Sylvan Lake 3 - Stony Plain 4 - Ft Sask / Horsle Lake
With Bentley and Sylvan advancing to the provincial final.

Fort Sask & Stony have one game left against each other on Jan. 31st and chances are that will be the night Horse Lakes' opponent for the Wildcard Series will be confirmed.
Not sure where the Clark Wilm rumour comes from. First I have heard of it.
Speaking of rumours...Georges Laraques' name is a constant with Horse Lake.
What I can tell you for sure is...
Horse Lake has Cory Maceachran in net. They've also got Keegan Dansereau, Jesse Dudas and Andrew Derton.
Its a safe bet there will be more to come.

And the Chinook League saga continues.
The Sylvan Lake Admirals beat Innisfail (expected) and got an all important 2 points in the standings but still has no guarantee of a finishing spot. If they lose tonight to Stony and Fort beats Bentley some strange things can still occur. The standings would then be SL 28 Stony 27 and Fort 26. In the final game of the regular season if Fort beats Stony in overtime that means Fort gets 2 points and Stony 1 which leaves all teams tied at 28 points. Using the Chinook league tie breaker rules that leaves Fort in 3rd Stony 4th and SL off to play Horse Lake.
The Chinook League has been the tightest race on record and it's still coming down to the last game of the season to determine playoff positions. It's been interesting to say the least.

There will be no tie breakers. All order is restored to the standings now. The Generals beat Fort Sask tonight. Thus, the only thing left to determine is 2nd/3rd in the Alberta rankings.
Bentley gets top seed.
Fort Sask gets 4rth and will face Horse Lake in the Wild Card Series.

Fort Sask has had a funny season. They started off with a bunch of losses, then, through the middle part of November appeared to be getting things going with a stretch of 5 games where they outscored the opposition about 45-10.
But...then they dropped a game against Carstairs to close out November.
And then....went undefeated in December...entering 2012 as the hottest team in the CHL.
They had 8 games left to go, including 3 against SR 'AA' opposition. I could have guessed them finishing anywhere BUT 5th in the league (4rth in Alberta).
And yet...thats exactly where they end up.
Ready or not...here comes Provincial Playoffs. As early as next weekend...maybe?

Ready or not...here comes Provincial Playoffs. As early as next weekend...maybe? Chinook League playoffs are from Feb 3 to Feb 15 based on best of 3 series, 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 4, series to be done by Feb 8th. The two winers then playing off for the League title, must wrap up by the 15th. Then the 4 Alberta teams face off 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 in a best of seven series starting Feb 17 to March 7th. The two winners going in best of seven on March 9th to March 31st. The winner advancing to the McKenzie Cup in ? B.C. Until Stony Plain and Fort Sask play the last game of the season on Tuesday Jan 31, the positions of SL Admirals and Stony Plain are still up in the air. SL is ahead in points but Stony has a game in hand. Tuesday nights game will determine the final 2 positions.

Yes.
And knowing this, its a safe bet Fort Sask & Horse Lake will start their series next weekend.
It should only be a question of whether or not they will schedule 2 games next weekend or the following weekend.
Fort Sask has the hammer. That should be their call.

There are even those within Army Camp who feel this could happen. The Generals are just 1 of 5 strong Alberta teams with work to do between now and the end of March. Behind enemy lines theres talk of the Gens being too old & slow. But beware the draft horse when the bogs are heavy.
