It will be interesting to see what lineup the Tundras can dress for tonight's game #4. Although the final scores might not indicate it, Orillia has been better than those final scores. Game #3 was a good example, where they were doing just fine with the score tied at 4-4 mid way though the game. Unfortunately they were missing two of their top defensemen in Craig Woods and Matt Smith. Then early in the first period, their captain Dennis Dewer was out of the game from a routine check that he was slightly off balance on. Often the more significant injuries come from rather innocent events, and when your captain comes to the bench on only one skate and in obvious discomfort, you know you may be in some trouble.
Of course excuses mean nothing but facts do. When your reward for making the playoffs is facing the very good first place team, as Whitby is, then you are going to need all hands on deck. Orillia is not likely to beat Whitby by playing wide open pond hockey so they have played a solid physical game, led by some good sized and strong defensemen. They have not been pushed around in that area at all. However as game #3 wore on, fatigue began to show, and with only four D-men carrying the load, an instinctive foe took the opportunity to pounce. They didn't wind up in first place for no reason at all. They are a good hockey club. Whitby went to town with the bing, bing, bing and it's in the net , as they like to do.
As far a goal tending is concerned, both Ron Bertrand and Dave Digironimo are good tenders and each have played some stellar games this season. neither one has been able to raise to an Aschaber level in these playoffs, but that is a pretty lofty comparison.
If Orillia can dress a healthy line-up they can put on a good show. Whatever the case, I hope they will give it their all right to the end. Their improvement this year is undeniable, but this is the playoffs and all out effort is what allows you to hold your heads high when all is said and done.
Good luck to both teams, and of course especially to the Tundras, because I'm just a little biased if anyone hasn't noticed.

Good luck to both teams, and of course especially to the Tundras, because I'm just a little biased if anyone hasn't noticed. Questions answered... Challenges met... and a very good show they put on. The Tundras came through and iced a very good line up. Not everyone they would wish for but more that adequate. On 'D', Matt Smith back in, and Mike Torkoff (who I forgot to mention earlier and shame on me) was also back in and scored the opening goal on a very slick breakaway deak. Back to six D-men, and the difference was like night and day. What fatigue? Even the big man Greg Johnston, who must have wondered if game #3 would ever end, must have checked himself in for an intravenous recovery cocktail, and was dancing like a teenager (well almost!!!). Andrew Morris also benefited from increased support and notched 2 goals and 1 assist to earn the games first star. Up front Richard Kazda was back in and scored a strategic quick goal at 34 seconds to open up the third period. So was captain Dennis Dewer back in, recovered from an injury that forced him out early in game #3. Dennis didn't make the score sheet, but he lead a much more determined forward brigade who were not going to settle for ineffective long shots. Penetrating the offensive zone was their mission accomplished. Dave Digironimo got the nod in goal and more that met the Aschaber level challenge. He was stellar, sharp with the glove, and tremendously efficient at containing any loose pucks when opposing traffic was lurking. A fresher defense and Digi's fine puck control were so complimentary as to make game three forgettable. Game #5 goes back to Whitby tonight, and my car is pointed that way> Good luck Boys!!! P.S. Hopefully it won't be referee Steve Brown two nights in a row. Last nights playoff game was a good one dispite his usual best effort to screw it up, for both sides.
