Anytime we get to see two teams from the same province going head to head...it stands a good chance to produce a classic.
Tonights' game is easily the most anticipated SR AAA game Saskatchewan has seen in a very long time.
LBK rarely gets resistance from other 'AAA' teams. Most years, Saskatchewan is belongs to them and only them.
Thats not the case this time around.
The Rosetown Red Wings have ascended into rarified air the last couple of seasons. They've enjoyed a staggering stretch of success at the 'AA' level and out lasted the strongest Provincial AAA field in Sask. since the days of the Ministikwin Islanders to qualify here.
To say these teams know each other well would be an under sell. Rosetown went into LBK and beat the 'Kings in the 3rd and deciding game of a semi-final about a month ago. That win salavged some face for SHA after the curious decision to plot Balgonie into a bye to the SASK FINAL.
The University of Saskatchewan Huskies are well represented on both sides of tonights game. Several of tonights key match ups are composed of players who played with each other in the past.
I could predict a winner here...but...I won't sell it as anything more than a shot in the dark and what fun is that, really?
Instead...I will say I think Rosetown might have an edge in net. Harvey hasn't wavered. Westblom seems to tense up at times.
For the most part...the skating talent tends to cancel out man for man. These squads are just so evenly matched it feels like an OT game is imminent tonight.
And even if we don't get OT...Its shaped up to be tighter JJ Hunters fiddle strings.
So maybe it boils down to which team gets a big snipe at the right time?
Jagow has just been average so far. He could be the giant killer tonight. So could Casey Lee who might be the best all around player in this tournament.
On the LBK end of things...Starr and Da Silva have both been prominent.
Lets just ask the hockey gods to keep Sheldon "The Scene" Dean from spoiling this wheatbelt classic.
