Mike Brent just scored on a dump in that took a fluke bounce. GF-W up 2-1 about 5 minutes left in second period. Clarenville has dominated most of the second period however.

I would think either give the defending champ a bye assuming Grand Falls-Windsor wins the Herder again or possibly have the NESHL playoffs serve as the joint NB/PEI and the winner playing whoever wins the Herder this year.
Both of these give the Newfoundland entry gets the bye either way.
With the condition the CWSHL is in right now I would not necessarily assume the league will be around next year with Corner Brook (who sat out this year) planning on being a member of a lower level senior league and the future of the Gander team not looking to hopeful.
Could the departure of the AHL possibly give a few more people the idea that senior hockey may be a good investment in the St. John's area next year as the area seems to love its hockey and the AHL leaving would be a big void.
With the 2018 tournament being held in Saskatchewan that may make a team or two think twice about jumping to Senior AAA as that trip may be a little on the expensive side for any team to make from the Atlantic Provinces. From looking at recent hosts and the alternating east/west hosting format it the most likely host for 2018-19 would be either an Ontario (ACH) or possibly even Montague, PEI (as they would be playing at Senior AAA form 2017-18 and be eligible to host in 2018-19). Both New Brunswick and Newfoundland would have hosted it in the last few years 2017 and 2015. Alberta hasn't hosted since 2013. BC could be another possibility for 2018 as the province hasn't hosted since 2010 and the West Coast Heat are saying they will be back at the Senior AAA level for 2017-18 or even the Powell River Regals.
If it is given to Montague, what would happen to the host branch getting the unused spot assuming Quebec doesn't have a team entered? Hockey PEI would be the host branch. Logistics wise give three spots to the Atlantic region (host, regional champ, unused spot) seems to be the easiest fix. Or is the six team, two pools of three format written in stone (possibly lending to a five or even a four team tournament with having the Quebec spot not being used and the Pacific and Western regions playing off for one spot to cut down on expenses). I know there was a time or two where the east didn't even participate back in the 1990's so there would be precedent.

How many provinces have senior leagues ? Does New Brunswick have a senior league? How many play in the Allan cup? Sadly, there is no senior hockey in Nova Scotia. If you are looking for Senior AAA which is Allan Cup eligible hit the website www.allancup.caHit this website address icehockey.wikia.com/wiki/2016-17_Canadian_Senior_Season it is a page that links to information on the senior leagues located throughout Canada.

1-0 Cataracts after 2 Goal by Danny Wicks on the power play with about 2 minutes left in second period. Ryan Desrosiers got thrown out for spearing (5 minutes plus game) with about 3 minutes left in second period. Had just put game as the spear happened He got hit with a shot from a teammate and a player from the other team gave him some lip and then he harpooned him. Parker Deighan of the Caribous also got a ten minute misconduct after giving the ref some lip. Announcers said both goalies have been making some great saves.

Just looked at the game sheets. Moriarty and Sawyer were involved in a fight with slashing calls included (stick fight?) on December 3rd. Moriarty got called for playing without a helmet at the same time. mlhsite.stats.pointstreak.com/gamesheet_full.html?gameid=2934600Foreman and Lapointe were involved in an incident in a December 2nd game Foreman got a head contact ejection about five minutes after Lapointe got ejected for a spearing match penalty, both in the first period. The game seemed to have been pretty out of control as another player got thrown out for checking from behind and two other players got thrown out for abuse of officials in two separate incident late in the third period mlhsite.stats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=2934598

The schedule for the Herder Memorial Trophy final is apparently set March 25, 26 in AESHL team's rink and March 31, 1, 2 at the CWSHL team's rink. The Grand Falls Windsor Cataracts website is now www.gfwcataracts.ca/ which is a change from the old .com website which expired. Nothing firm from the Central/West Senior Hockey League or the Gander Flyers to confirm or refute the report that the Flyers have folded. www.thesportspage.ca/gander-flyers-have-folded/The CWSHL website listed a playoff schedule but apparently that may be up in the air due to the Gander situation. The same website also stated that a new strictly amateur league was in the works for the west coast of the island with teams based out of Corner Brook, Deer Lake, Stephenville and Port aux Basques - See more at: www.thesportspage.ca/category/hockey/#sthash.mJIVHKJC.dpuf

I had found this on the league website last September:
Format
The fifth and sixth place teams play a one game sudden victory game similar to Major League Baseball's Wild Card Round.
The winner of the "wild card game" advances to play the fourth place team in a best-of-three series with the winner becoming the 4th seed.
The semifinal and final round will still be best-of-seven.
The playoff champion traditionally advances to the Renwick Cup against the Hockey Northwestern Ontario representative in a best-of-three series to determine the Ontario representative at the Allan Cup. This series will not be needed as there are no other Senior AAA teams in the province; so now the Allan Cup Hockey champion will advance directly to the 2017 Allan Cup.
(Found out later on that only the top five qualify so cut out the wild card round)

I think the possibility that the team won't play is realistic. I just looked at the Simon Fraser University hockey team, Powell River Regals, and Whitehorse Huskies websites and none of them mention playing the West Coast Heat this year. The funny thing too is that the Powell River Regals website has not been updated for this season either. Could the CHL champ have a pass on the Mckenzie Cup to the Allan Cup?

I just took a look at the game recaps and there were two players not listed on the roster for the 5-2 loss to Lacombe on October 15, played in both forfeited games (November 5th and 6th) and were not on the 5-2 win on November 19th over Stony Plain. They were Jordie Johnston and Kyle Stroh. The CHL's Rosetown team stat page list Stroh as only playing two games. Johnston is listed as playing four games. It would seem to be Stroh being the issue because if it was Johnston even the losses would be turned into shut out losses, I believe. The only other player listed as playing in two games is Travis Statchuk who was not listed on the roster for either of the forfeits.
Travis Granbois only played 3 games and was listed on the roster for the 11/6 forfeit but not the 11/5 forfeit. He did also however play in the 10/15 and 10/16 losses to Lacombe.
