The Elsipogtog Hawks are coming off winning the North East Senior Hockey League championship.
Now, they're headed to the Allan Cup.
The Hawks will represent Atlantic Canada at the Allan Cup national senior AAA hockey championship tournament, which opens on Monday in Rosetown, Sask.
Elsipogtog defeated the Bouctouche JCs in the North East league final last month.
"The community is very proud of us and everyone is backing us up," said Elsipogtog team manager Luckie Milliea. "It's the talk of the town."
The six-team Allan Cup also features Ontario winner Stoney Creek Generals, Saskatchewan champion and host Rosetown Red Wings, Saskatchewan finalist Bethune Bulldogs, Manitoba winner South East Prairie Thunder and Alberta champ Lacombe Generals.
The Hawks are in Division I with South East and Bethune. They play South East on Tuesday and Bethune on Wednesday in round-robin games.
Elsipogtog has added players to its roster for the tournament. Goaltender Andrew Flemming, defencemen David Crossman, Alexandre Soucy and Derek Martin and forwards Matt Quinn, Sylvain Dube, Jordan Scott, Max St-Cyr, Matt Stefanishion, Justin Bowers and Jacques Cormier will suit up for the squad in Rosetown.
"I think we have a pretty good team. I think we can do pretty good," Milliea said.
"We're going to be really good up front with a lot of firepower and we have good goaltending, too."
The team's starting netminder is Bryan Gillis.
Hawks head coach Scott Farrell is unable to make the trip to Saskatchewan. Jesse Perley, bench boss of the Perth-Andover River Valley Thunder in the Regional Hockey League, will coach the club in Farrell's place.
The first-place team in the round robin in each division advances to semifinals on April 13. The second- and third-place teams play in crossover quarter-finals on April 12.
The final is slated for April 14.
Elsipogtog was scheduled to host an Allan Cup Atlantic qualifying tournament in January in Bouctouche. However, the Hawks were declared the winner after the Montague, P.E.I., Stallions folded and the Newfoundland and Labrador representative chose not to attend.
Last year's Allan Cup tournament was held in Bouctouche. The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts of Newfoundland beat Lacombe 7-4 in the final.
