pointstreak.com still has Allan Cup Tournament stats archived back to 2007. Nothing older than that

It appears allancup.ca is no longer the same portal either. Where will Allan Cup tournament stats be archived?

No BC AAA.
Powell River, Rossland & Penticton are operating AA. Not AAA.

Stony Plain is earnestly trying to get going. Not sure what they’ve got for players but Bryan Forslund will be announced as Head Coach in the coming days. Would make a good coach. Such a good person and team mate. Hopefully the delay in league announcement didn't hurt them too much with recruitment. I’ve seen a short list of returnees. Nothing as far as total numbers. I believe Stony has a schedule posted on their website now. Most of the top SR players in AB have chosen to play in the NCHL.

Maybe the Fort McMurray Millionaires will make a comeback?

It’s not being classified as a “AAA” only league. It’s resembling the old Chinook league where you can be “AA” or “AAA” status. You can’t blame them for not promoting it as soon as likes since they didn’t receive approval until this past month. It takes more then a month to plan properly and get other interest. This is especially true with established leagues already in place. You have to look at it more in the big picture. Obviously a 5-6 team league would look amazing, however it isn’t the case at this present time. Realistically I think you can expect a solid year with a great leadership group behind it pushing the boards vision forward. Interest will be generated in time. No one is expecting senior hockey to be what it once was. Nobody is trying to become the next generals. Teams recognize that there still is very high caliber hockey in the country , and players who want to play, might as well continue to offer that level until it is no more. You can’t sit there and say team A or team B want to be the next big thing, the ultimate goal is winning a national championship until that can’t become no more. Sure in alberta there are only 2 teams currently, however the two teams have the support to make this a reality and most importantly the drive and will. I respect your positive viewpoint. I don’t personally consider two teams playing against each other to constitute “a league”. And I don’t think anyone else does either. Fort Sask continues to operate at the AA level. They’ve got zero intention of returning AAA. And neither do the current Lacombe Generals. Or anyone else in the NCHL. There are NO prospects for AAA expansion in Alberta. None. And maybe some year that will change but MY point is: The failure of the ACHW was NOT the fault of The Army being “too dominant”. There are 2-3 AA teams in Alberta …right now…as good or better than Stony or Inny. They’re not interested in competing for Allan Cup for the same reason(s) The Army left: It’s no longer a legitimate national championship & it’s poorly organized/supported by Hockey Canada AND it’s too expensive

The mystery “third team” in the Chinook League is not nearly as solid as some might have us believe. They were never even close to securing ice time in Carstairs. They’re now scrambling to borrow ice in Innisfail and whose playing for them?! As of right now…at best…Stony & Innisfail will be going AAA. Three years now past The Army signing off and zero indication of the forecasted “renewed interest in AAA, with the Generals gone”. What we’re actually seeing is more poorly organized, haphazard, hope and prayers and not much else. From what I saw the team was being offered ice time that would have games starting at 11pm or later.
Literally attempting to install a fly-by-night operation. Wowwww…. Who predicted this?! (I did)

As for solutions to the problems…well…that’s fucked. Why?
Like I said for 10+ years…without a network of teams…there are no prospective teams/sponsors/players willing to invest $$$ or time in something where there are no assurances of quality of competition, frequency of competition or cost of competition.
The only thing SR AAA was able to coordinate for 20 years was a steady procession of more going than coming.
Dozens upon dozens of teams found out in varying amounts of time & money the same lesson: It doesn’t work.
I suppose you could change the definition of the Allan Cup and allow college and university teams to compete.
Thing is…those players are recruited with scholarship incentives. That contradicts the Allan Cup constitution. And you can bet your ass there aren’t any existing Senior teams who would compete with any decent community college team and certainly not University teams.

I won’t quote any of the above posts but for the few people here reading what is left of the forum…I can tell you that in AB & SK there was ZERO interest from anyone other than Inny at the AAA level and that will definitely be true again next season.
I did have a brief conversation with someone in SK, two years ago, asking if I felt it was worth it for them to post the competition bond in AAA SK. The concern expressed to me was whether or not the bond would be returned in the event of cancellation and my advice was to hang onto the $$$ because the idea of the bond, in principal, is to ensure a level of genuine intent from the team and that because the same genuine level of intent is not reciprocated from the branch(s) it’s not sensible to commit any cash.
As far as AA level being interested in National Titles…as I’ve explained many times before…thats been done before: It was called Hardy Cup. And just like Allan Cup, it failed because there is not enough hang around cash to pay for that level of travel/commitment.
The Allan Cup doesn’t have a function anymore. It’s purpose was to award the best Sr team in all of Canada and with 90% of what’s left of Sr hockey deciding not to contest for a national championship and not making any plans of ever doing so…there is NOT a functioning tournament bracket to be had.
There is another thread here listing all the defunct teams from just the past 10-20 years. It’s two parts appalling to go down that list:
1) The amount of teams put in the work, believed in it and made a conclusion it wasn’t worth it anymore. 2) The amount of teams who did exist but nobody even remembers or recognizes them.
That list contrasted with the list of teams coming on board in the future is never more out of balance than it is right now.
That’s reality.

The only reason to suspend the RHL would be to save face. Which, makes it a sickening possibility for sure.
That being said…I don’t think that will happen. I think Innisfail will figure out it’s time for them to drop the AAA chase and ask the NCHL for membership. I don’t know how that request will be answered.
But I think if everyone is transparent and on the same page in agreement that AAA & Allan Cup hockey is dead or at least unworthy of the hassle with the way it is half-assedly handled right now…then next steps are to get everyone into what could become an even better AA league.

Nowadays, I’m not even calling myself a causal observer but I do want to provide some context & experience some might want to consider:
If you followed the RHL at all for the past 20 years…(like me)…then you’d already know RHL had game cancellations/postponements/folded teams each & every season going as far back as you want to go.
I’m not saying this to be disparaging. It’s a fact. My personal impressions of the RHL have always been…it’s a good, fun league for local guys to play some full contact hockey with minimal commitment.
Inny should’ve done some homework here IMO.
And maybe they did but desperation led them to this option?
Either way…The last thing anyone should be is surprised by game cancellations in this league. The RHL has historically maintained a far more casual approach to its operations than what a SR AAA operation is accustomed to. And I’m not saying that’s right or wrong…it’s just very different than what Inny was doing a few years ago.
And yes…you bet your ass Inny promised everyone that without the big bad Generals around…they’d actually have a easier time attracting SR AAA interest. I said it at the time and I’ll say it again now…that’s categorically false. Yes. It’s coming to fruition now …just as I said it would.
And it’s not gonna get better by pointing a finger at the RHL.

I could be wrong, but I think there are 2 AAA teams playing in Manitoba just in a lower league like Innisfail. Out east it wouldn't be illogical to see the Haut Madawaska team come out of that region if they win provincials. So that is potentially 3 plus a host and the Ontario winner would make 5. You could run a tournament with 5 teams, even 4 at the least it basically happens every weekend in hockey. I just don't see Innisfail paying their way there unless the host or hockey Canada can get funding together to cover a large portion of travel and expenses. I would say The RHL isn’t the one with identity issues. The Ranchland League has never promoted itself as anything beyond a small town/community focused FUN league. For many years they’ve featured teams from Rez’ communities in southern Alberta along with a couple loyal league members. Inny had nowhere else to play, no success in enticing anyone else to help them restore SR AAA in Alberta and they were desperate to find a loophole allowing them to remain on the Allan Cup map (even though there is no Allan Cup) The problem isn’t with the RHL. The problem is with Inny refusal to admit it was actually them who fucked up things in Alberta SR AAA.

the RHL is having mega identity issues. There is lots of drama currently witt many teams having issues on how the league was run and is being run etc. since HA listed inny as a AA the assumption by many in league was they would run for AC as in June of 21’ they registered as AAA. HA had other ideas as according to them from Hockey Canada AC would not go ahead, as a result I guess HA took it upon themselves to just register them as AA without informing teams until last minute. I’ve checked bylaws and from my view it looks like inny either got kicked out of league as it looks like the pres and vp are not the same as when league started? Not sure how that works given a leadership change in any league can’t happen until annual AGM meetings in may. My assumption is teams didn’t like getting beat and are just being sore losers?? Anyway looks like a long battle to keep team in league my be underway. Stay tuned looks interesting
