at least that much...probably more Ya...they're constantly battling to keep the books balanced and it's pretty tough to answer a question about the teams budget. I've never heard anyone use the word..."budget"...to be honest. They're perpetually coping with high costs of operation & it's gonna be a long hard road the next several years.

Most of the money comes from fundraising events, gate revenue and sponsorship agreements where local businesses contribute to rink board, sweater, website and papered advertisement spaces.
The budget amount would be comparable to any other CHL team + the cost of 20-30% more practice time + the cost of 4-6 extra exhibition games The Army agrees to + the cost of each Allan Cup trip.
The one hard number I can carefully relay: I think they were around 25,000$ to PAY their side of the Allan Cup tab. Might have been more...Don't quote me on that...I'd have to ask someone for factual numbers.

Wade.u still don't have a clue. Don't worry about filling out my report card. I graduated before you were ready for Kindergarten. My phone was full with texts from players, fans & coaches from all over Canada who were hoping to see Bentley stand tall in that final game & the reason was the same. Every. Time. Don't kid yourself...lots of people were down about this outcome. Not just The Army.

Balgonie had access to some really good players in Regina back when they were registering SR AAA. Garth Murray...among others...but the league they were in had some import restrictions which disabled those signings.
But...the good news is...there are small town rinks within a stones throw of the big cities all over Canada & that's a smart logistical set up for any SR AAA team...almost a no-brainer...really.

In order to make changes for next year, balls would have to be set in motion pretty much, well...NOW Exactly. Kinda goes to show who is really putting on the miles when you start discussing some alternatives & certain people from certain teams want to dismiss the discussion so they can "savour" things. Meanwhile...us FOOLS who play in leagues were already working on next year while the plane was in the air somewhere over central Canada.

Because they have more than 12-13 players on the bench! No seriously... How can a sponsor take senior hockey seriously when it's players don't. If you build it, they will come... Sorry wrong sport! Idunno about that...I was just down there to pay my summer league fees and whoever it was playing the morning game was playing in front of an empty rink. Not saying it isn't a problem to have short benches for Allan Cup games...but...let's be objective...of the last 16 teams in the last 3 Allan Cups...how many games have we seen where teams played being MORE THAN ONE guy short of a full bench? The answer is 5 or 6 games...out of 33 games, I think?! And they were all from this tournament. There are lots of things we hope to see fixed. Let's not blow some of them out of proportion. I think...shorter regular season schedules is a smart move for both ACH & CHL. Shorter game rosters? I'm not so sure about that. I'd like to see at least one more year with the 28 man roster & see if we can fill 85-95% of those allotments...hoping to see it translate to better game to game player attendance.

I see the Esso Cup is in Red Deer this week.
I believe it's the National Midget Girls Championship.
How does THAT tournament get a big brand sponsor but the Allan Cup doesn't?

I don't think a creative discussion about possible ways of improving something is taking anything away from what SEPT accomplished.
Nor do I think there is time to "savour" anything.
Next years' field is directly effected by the fall-out from this years' tournament.

I'll follow the above post with this:
Keep in mind...Even if we only had 2 SR AAA teams in MB...all it would take is ONE year where ONE of those teams played 6-10 exhibition games and then WON the SR AAA title and you would see a re-sparked desire from "the other team" to play some more games.
Competition breeds growth.

I think...the practicality of simply launching a multiple team league...no matter what the plan might be to make it happen...isn't there, yet.
I think...You'd have to start small & simple.
I think...If we could just entice some really solid hockey people to resurrect Steinbach/Iles Des Chenes North Stars and have a Best of 7 Provincial Playoff with 2 MB teams...and try to take that & grow interest & excitement for SR AAA in Manitoba.
Also...From what I can gather...Altona & maybe 1-2 other "AA" teams in Manitoba aren't really all that far off from having the talent to compete at the next level.
It's impossible for me to know if those existing teams have an appetite for Allan Cup challenges...but...I doubt it. The leagues these teams play in are steeped in history & despite big crowds at times...they'll view themselves as "delicate" and won't want to gamble with their budgets.

Maybe we should look at this in a different way. The reason MB is not supporting a "AAA" league right now is because of sheer lack of numbers, there is no way to look around it. As wade has pointed out and I agree, the "AA" leagues in MB are alive and very strong. Over half of the guys on SEPT come from the "AA" leagues across the province. In order to create a "AAA" league you would have to essentially cherry pick top players from all of these leagues just to create "AAA" calibur teams. Resulting in a watered down "AA" league. Do I think there could be a "AAA" league in MB? Honestly, no. Not only would "AA" teams take a huge hit but the lack of big population centers to support these teams is a factor too. It's fine and dandy to have a "AAA" league, with 5 or 6 teams that compete hard all year to reach the AC. Certainly the GTA and province of Alberta have the large populations to draw support from. You shouldn't discount the SEPT players for the hard work and commitment they have to come together and field a competitive team. They are a victim of circumstance to the HockeyMB system. How do we change this? Good question. I don't disagree with any of this. But...it doesn't change my mind...I'm still cheering for the teams who play all year.

Wade ,you don't have a clue how much work marv, players put in to this.or the Kenora guys.Do you ever read the shit you say? Just a question, did the Generals lose to a better hockey ? Yep.Didnt play a whole lotta games but walked in there and beat a very good hockey team.Thats it.Good on em.Your right you don't represent the hockey team. Ill bet there was not one General that whined about Sept. All guys who have played the game,AND JUST GOT BEAT.Let it go. Why not enlighten us? Honest question: How many practices? How much time spent fundraising? How many miles on the bus? I'd ask how many games...but...the answer is 7. Seven games all year.

Look...I never complained about the rules & I never said I didn't want SEPT "IN" the tournament.
All I said was Id rather have seen Bentley...or...some other team that puts the work in WIN the Allan Cup.
I've got good reasons for this opinion & I don't feel the least bit guilty about it.
I've been kind to SEPT. I don't mean to disrespect Marv or the team. I would simply rather see a different outcome because the outcome here...doesn't do much for anyone other than SEPT, IMO.
