Hi All Just thought we are now in final quarter of season as good a time as any to start the ACH playoff talk going. Firstly, Congrats to the Whitby Dunlops as the first team to qualify. With their 2 wins this weekend. They now can finish no worse than 3rd place in standings. We gave them everything we could but 3 in a row wasn't meant to be. Although we were on the L side of the tilt. Hockey fans were treated to an exciting 3-2 game. In checking this season the only finish not to happen yet so the league can claim that everyone has beat everyone else is the Blast handing a L to Whitby. (But it took a Shoot out for Dunnies to get 1 of the W's) Ham and Co. get their chance on Feb 4th.
Let the Debate begin!!

After the Ontario delegates voted in favor of the new affiliate rule last spring....are any of these SR AAA teams actually using affiliate provisions? Pretty sure I already know the answer.

Wade..as far as I was led to believe Ontario did not vote for it as per discussions that were held at our league Board meetings. I would guess with the unity of Sr Hockey in other provinces makes the rule favourable to those provinces. Teams that operate as SR AA and A teams in Ontario are not under the OHA/OHF/HC banner.. well YET??
In terms of affiliates all that we are allowed in Ontario is a team-to-team and how is any Tier 1 Jr. team going to let their best players play with the 21+ guys, except a backup 2nd string goalie OR 10 players at large again what are the options?? with no SR AA or A teams.
Don't get me started!! lol

Right on Snoop. Looks like you guys got Whitby's number. Could be De Ja Vu for Whitby again this year. This is the time the game has to be played on the ice and behind the scenes. February 10th is closing in.
Word has it Goalie Ascheber and dman Searle are on their way back which should give a team boost and wouldn't hurt:)
Ontario does not recognize AA/A senior hockey..only AAA. I think the last AA playoffs in the OHA was Frankford Huskys and Marmora Lakers. At that time (2007) there were only 4 teams in the EOSHL. Whitby and Norwood declared AAA and Frankford and Marmora did not. The next year it was passed that all teams were AAA or see ya which inevitably brought the old MLH ( now ACH) and the EOSHL together to where it is today. The WOAA, which has been discussed on here before, has an abundance of AA/A hockey teams but not recognized by OHA ( or anyone as Snoop said) and that's a shame. There are 2 teams, Tillsonburg and Petrolia, that play in the WOAA now and used to belong to the MLH. Snoops right, no Junior tier 2 team is going to give their top players for men to have their way with. Those kids find it hard enough coming into the ACH at 21 years old. Just give each team across the board 30 cards and make or break your team!
To boot, if anyone was interested in starting a senior league in Ontario and not be sanctioned are classified as "Outlaw" and the way it is written the arenas or townships that allow the ice to these Outlaw leagues get penalized. Sounds a little socialist but it is where we are!!! Do as i say, not as i do.

I apologize.
I think sometimes I have so many meaningless facts stored up I lose track. It has only ever made sense for the MLH/ACH to have voted 'NO' to the affiliation rule and yet I seem to remember being told differently.
I hope the Allan Cup Hockey playdowns go swimmingly for Ontario this year.
Personally, Id like to see Whitby back in the tournament. Just something about a team with a half century (plus) of trophies & history thats hard to deny.

That no other team fund raised, begged, borrowed or stole to operate ...hasn't the right to go to the Allan cup? Forget that wadella...Newfoundland didn't win by luck, it was talent and a goalie...period!! The generals were behind and all their history didn't help them! let the best team, best healthy team, make it and put on a show. Make history!!!

Whitby looks beatable any night and dundas has a couple goalies that are strong. brantford cant ride leggat or thomas and digironamo is not bertrands replacement if he cant play. norwood doesnt look like they have what it takes in net but can score. Spurr, watson, mackellar, doherty, shoebridge ( whcih should be gauley if he played every game) are all good senior players but who will rise to the top!

I said I would like to see them qualify. Its got nothing to do with any team being more deserving of any other. I just happen to think its neat there is a Whiby Dunlops squad still active today...and a pretty damn good one to boot. But, whatever floats your boat, by'.

First I don't see an X beside the Orillia is the standings yet. (X=clinched playoff spot) The Tundras have some work to do and the Mayor of Marmora has it right the 2 remaining games between Norwood and Orillia will be big ones for both teams. I started this thread to congrat Whitby on OFFICIALLY clinching. And I think if my math is right they will finish no worse than 3rd and now congrats to Real McCoys as they have officially qualified for the playoffs. Also with the last quarter of the season left, I was encouraging fans to see games wherever they lived by reminding all that everyone had beat everyone at least once except the Whitby-Brantford series. and low and behold Brantford wins in Whitby on Saturday. I promised the wife a trip away when the season is over. hopefully, I can wear the FEDORA a little longer below I trade it in for a Sombrero and have a siesta.
