I realize AFAN started a similar thread but thought this title will create more posts. Doug - maybe you can add in that thread to this one...
It's so hard to predict how an Allan Cup will play out when you have teams competing from all over the country and for the most part have not played a single game against other teams in the tourny.
My following prediction is based on the 5 or 6 Allan Cups I've watched in person and a few I've seen online:
It was mentioned earlier that the Stoney Creek Generals can be compared to the 2014 Dundas Real McCoys. I personally don't think they are equal to that team. The '14 McCoys are still the best Senior team I've ever seen.
But Stoney Creek isn't far behind. They are very big. Their D are aggressive and a few play the body more than the puck, which is a dying art in modern day Senior hockey.
In fact, and I know Don Robertson, wouldn't like this, but in the 20 years that Dundas has been back playing Senior hockey, this past Ontario championship was the first time I have ever seen a team come into Dundas and intimidate the host McCoys. Dundas' arena is a small ice surface and as such the McCoys historically have built very tough teams (just ask the poor Bentley player who bore the brunt of the best hockey hit I have ever witnessed in hockey at any level - by 240 lb Matt Smith). Still talked about in Valleytown.
When I say intimidated I don't mean like the old days of Normie Dezaine or Moriarty, as fighting is essentially not allowed in today's game. But more of a physical hard-hitting intimidation. Never thought I'd see the day that a team could intimidate the McCoys at Market Street Arena...but it happened in both home games. I'm sure Donnie will work on changing that for next season.
In closing - early prediction is Stoney Creek goes undefeated and beats South East Prairie in the final.

I predict the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts will win the 2016 Allan Cup.

I think SC Generals are better than the '14 McCoys still. Remember the 14 Mccoys lost to Brantford in the finals of Ontario. I believe in 6. This Generals beat Brantford in 5 quite easily. I think the Brantford team is comparable to their team in '14 as well.
The big issue for the SC Generals will be how many of their players make it out to Steinbach. We've all seen in years past that the Ontario team usually travels with about 80% of their team to the AC and many times without their big guns.

I agree the SC Generals are big and tough and definitely intimidated the McCoys in their on building this year...I do not agree that they are anywhere near that 2014 team (especially in G)...although I really do like their D.

Brantford's 2016 team wasn't as good as 2014:
Forwards - notable losses C Spurr, Leveille, Mike Ruberto, Healy, Bullock outweigh additions in Medeiros, Alcock and McCarthy.
Defence can be argued that uts as good both years with additions Peroff, Ledyard, Foam and Milligan offsetting the losses of K Spurr and Lackner.
Goalies are the same although Leggatt was hurt during this year's playoffs.
Some veterans are also 2 years older and may have regressed in some cases.
Stoney Creek is a great team no doubt and likely as deep an offensive team as I've saw in Ontario the past 10 years but they haven't played teams the likes of Dundas and Brantford's 2014 team yet. Yes - Stoney Creek was better than Brantford this year. The 5 game series doesn't reflect that Brantford had opportunities to win all but game 4 during the series though.

If Svendin keeps playing the way he did in the finals against Brantford Stoney Creek has a good shot at the Allan Cup. Unfortunately Brantford was missing Leggat all playoffs due to a knee injury and some key players some of the games otherwise I think it would have been a closer series.

TOO EASY TO GO WITH SOUTHEAST AS HOST AND CHAMPS, SO HEART SAYS IDC WINS AS THE UNDERDOG. HEAD SAYS BENTLEY. BUT IT HURTS TO SAY IT!

I predict Shellbrook to win Allan Cup.
A sleeping giant of a team to say the least looking at their roster...WOW.

From what I've seen Stoney Creek is very good. If all players show up, they will compete. Forwards are super skilled and fast. In both series, it didn't matter if they were down 2 or 3 goals, they always came back to win. However, they are a first year participant. On that note, much of the same players will play again this year from South East, Bentley and Grand-Falls (or Lameque if they upset). Ile-des-Chenes and Shellbrook are the unknown.
In reading up on the first 4 teams, this tournament has the possibility of being one of the best in a long time.
PREDICTION: GRAND-FALLS over STONEY CREEK

After watching Stoney Creek beat my Blast and to the delight of everyone in Brantford watch them demolish the Real McCoys, I can't see them not in the final if all their key players make the trek to Manitoba. As an aside, I think Blast fans find it even more satisfying when Dundas loses than when Brantford wins:)
Prediction is Army vs Army with the eastern Stoney Creek Generals beating the Bentley Generals. With the game ending, the camera rolls over to a "bawling" wade as he realizes that there will be no more Bentley Generals.
Hi ho hi ho, it's off to Lacombe we go LOL.

Interesting predictions both great teams but always wonder when I see these how the defending champions and host arent in the final! Don Robertson

Happened to the Blast too after winning Mr. Allan in 2008.

That's why it's a great rivalry and why the biggest crowds that Dundas gets are when Blast are the opponent. So yes Don we support your gate. We don't have to love you though. If it wasn't for the McCoys longetivity and dedication of their executive there likely wouldn't be senior hockey on Ontario. But this year was fun for us - wonder if Dundas will win more than 7 games next year booo hahaha

Blastguest, please read again what I wrote -- not everyone in Brantford thinks like that. No mention was made that it was most Blast fans. After 2014, I feel the rivalry has not been the same between the Blast and Dundas. It's still there but not as intense. But you are entitled to your opinion as I am entitled to mine.
