I'm curious to see what kind of scheduling solution the ACH comes up with. In a league where they were already playing a hybrid season...it's gonna be tricky.

Wade: not sure what you mean by a hybrid schedule, but we like to play a rivalry driven schedule which makes for geographical and economical sense. The schedule has been tweaked and will be fine this season. Losing Welland was not in the plans but sometimes shit happens we'll move on and be better next season, we have a very nice plan to make this an even better League. Others will take glee in this but we do pretty well when measured against many AAA leagues. Hope everyone has a great year. Cheers Don Robertson

I don't think ANYONE is relishing seeing the ACH lose a team at this point.
This has been a disastrous summer for the overall team count...coast to coast...and even though Welland hasn't been a factor among the top of the pile...it's getting to the point where there isn't really a "top" or "bottom" anymore.

MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OCTOBER 21, 2014 Welland Whalers Cease Operation
CAMBRIDGE, ON - The Allan Cup Hockey League announced today, that they had been advised by the Welland Whalers that they would not be operating this season due to a shortage of players. The Whalers entered the League for the 2012-13 season and also competed during the 2013-14 season. Director of Hockey Operations for the team, Tim Toffolo, informed the ACH group on a phone call last night stating that he had exhausted every option possible to invite players to attend training camp, but to no avail. ACH Commissioner, Brent Ladds, said that the League was disappointed to hear that the Whalers had folded. “At a time when we are attempting to build the League with more franchises, the withdrawal of Welland, was not something that we had anticipated. They were a great addition to our League,” said Ladds. The ACH League has met and re-drawn the 2014-15 schedule, as a result of the withdrawal of the Whalers. The League has chosen to continue with a 24 game unbalanced schedule, one game of which was already played on October 18th, between Stoney Creek Generals, and the Norwood Vipers. The new schedule will be posted to the ACH web site by Monday, October 27th, 2014. In the interim, the Stoney Creek Generals will replace the Welland Whalers on October 25th in Whitby

Jim - I guess you were correct when you stated teams out East have much bigger budgets but I guess out there senior hockey is the main event.
Unless Stewart moved out east it's got to cost a fortune to fly him in on weekends rather than play locally here.
I also think he's probably been guaranteed an Allan Cup roster spot. In fact, I bet one of those 2 teams probably help finance some key imports to have access to them come Allan Cup time.

Not how it works Jim...each team foots there own bill....the Herder is more important than an Allan Cup here on the island lost of the time..not to take away from the Allan Cup...it's the best senior hockey in Canada. .but we believe we have the best senior hockey league in canada here..which is why alot of players come here tk play from all over Atlantic Canada and even as far as Ontario. Rinks with over 1000 fans per game makes for high level hockey, players like to play in that type of atmosphere.

what a signing that is....It's my opinion (which may not mean much ) that Greg Stewart is the best all-around player in senior hockey across the country. It was an absolute joy watching him play for the Real McCoys last year, thank you Don for making that happen

He only played a handful of games last year...and that SHOULD BE part of the criteria...plus...this senior hockey season has only barely begun...so...how can we even begin to rank players?!

Idunno...I've seen a lot of players in a lot of leagues/tournaments over the years and to be honest...it's extremely rare there is a individual player who convincingly & consistently sets himself above & apart from all others.

That is an excellent league...but be honest about why...players all get paid. Period. And Stewart will be on the Clarenville or GFW roster by next April.
