More penalties called than what you would like to see for a game of this magnitude and I can understand if FSJ was frustrated at times. But in the end it went both ways and the Flyers had plenty of powerplay time. The Gens PK stepped up to the task. Scott Galenza could just as easily have been Series MVP. It went to Joey Vandermeer and he's a sweet choice. The Army lost marquee defenceman, Brandon Smith, mid way through the 3rd period. And it was Vandermeer whom Sutter entrusted with double shift duties. Vandy delivered the poise we have come to knwo so well from him as the closiing minutes forced the tension to a fever pitch. And I can tell you...tension was flowing like lava in the old barn tonight! The most intense 3rd period I have ever seen. I salute the Flyers full out effort. Once again they played incredible and it made for a memorable week of ten bell hockey. Gens Captain, Sean Robertson, dropped to his knees to block the final Flyers shooting attempt with a few ticks remaining...and in a rain of broken sticks and screaming fans, The Army cleared the defensive zone and hoisted all hands to the rafters. Galenza nailed it down with anchor bolts tonight!!!

Congrats to the Generals on a hard fought series. It's a shame that one of these teams wasn't going to be able to play for the National title. Good luck in Kenora, keep the Cup out west!

2 of probably the top 3 Top Senior teams in Canada battle in probably one in one of the most intense series played in any level of hockey in a long time. As mentioned it's to bad both these teams aren't playing in the AC! It was a disappointing loss for the Flyers but they where battling a very experienced and talented Generals teams in front of 2000 people in there own barn and just came a hair short of victory. The comments I heard around the rink was that was more exciting and hard hitting hockey then NHL or W games. Bentley should be one of the favorites at the AC but the question may if they have enough time to recover from all the injuries that came about from this series. Best of luck to them in Kenora. The Flyers where written of at the begining of the season as a team that "had choose to die on the mountain they had captured, well let me tell they are alive and well and have become a an elite Senior AAA program and will be for years to come!

Congrats to the Gen's and particular to Scotty Galenza for a huge effort! It's nice to see a guy come though when he's considered a wink link on a strong club...and to be honest I was one of those people...even though my team lost it was good to see him do well!!!

Thing is...if both of Pacific powerhouse's were in the AC, it would not be possible to for this incredible Mac Cup to happen.
I have said it before....series play trumps single elimination every time, IMO.
One thing I think was very different from last year to this year is...even though the Gens had to battle through key injuries....none of those injuries were sustained to the top 4 defencemen...( up until the dying minutes of the series when Brandon Smith went down)...
I think it was very important for the Gens to have been able to keep their defence group intact. It gives them advantadge, 2 fold, because they have ALL STARS on the blue line for every shift of the game and they don't have to sacrifice any forwards to fill in, either.
Last spring, fans in FSJ commented how the Gens top line didn't seem to be anything special.
Well, the thing about that was...the Gens top line centreman on many nights was Lappy. In the Allan Cup...Lappy had to be dropped back to play defence. He did a good job back there...but...you guys in the Peace Country came down here with no idea just how good he is a centre.
He led the 2011 Mac Cup in points, logging huge minutes and scored 3 straight goals for us...closing out game 4 with a pair of G's and then opening the do or die game with a beautiful rush to beat Pool clean (pardon the pun).
As it turned out...the Gens ARE able to handle the Flyers top line. They matched up different lines at different times...and had good results all around.
Thats what can happen when forwards play as forwards.

What's the deal with Sutter not shaking hands with anyone from the Flyers the last 2 years after it's all over?
