The city has finally figured out it needs another team in Shade St...their game-day income from Hornets games dwarfed what they make form the Hawks.
Be interesting to see where Cam Watson ends up playing, if this thing ever gets off the ground.

The "No Fight Rule" is mandated across all SR hockey via Hockey Canada. it was adopted here 4-5 years ago...well in advance of The Hockey Canada poor decision.

Physicality is a huge part of what attracts the real fans to the game of hockey. ice capades is not hockey. Figure it out. The OHA wants to treat grown men trying to play at the highest amateur level as 12 yr old boys, and protect them from themselves it's petty sickening.

The OHA is a joke...they have legislated fighting and hitting entirely out of the game.

Hey, they are going NOWHERE with the current crop of youngsters they have, Robbie. Unless they add some vet mercenaries, they may miss the playoffs, even. Cam Watson is an EXCELLENT player, but is alone on an island. Jim C The last team to think that brining vet mercenaries in will work don't play in this League anymore ( maybe next year ) The Hornets proved you can't win that way and the Real McCoys don't think it works either, that said some of the long time McCoys come back during the season. We always think outside the box and try and find a better way, it doesn't always work and may not angain this year but we try. Regards Don Robertson Now that's funny...the team in question does not play in this league any more because the other 2 teams who did EXACTLY what the other said team did decided they didn't being beaten at their own game and conspired with Brent Ladds to railroad said original team. I actually sat in a meeting where two specific GM's tried to blackball Jeff Zehr and Chris McKenzie because they wanted more money than Dundas or Brantford were willing to pay. true story. Nice try. Obviously the last team to pay players a lot of money and be successful were the Brantford Blast, in winning the 100th edition of the Allan Cup. They spent more that year than Cambridge OR Aylmer ever did. Donnie, the fact that your team routinely comes up shorter and shorter every year as your Foundry sponsorship dollars dry up is all the proof we need that you were, in fact, doing business as usual (you know, like when you actually won an AC) in years previous, and are finding it more and more difficult trying to compete w/o compensating your players. cause and effect. Leopards, especially old crafty ones, never change their spots. Do you really expect people to believe that all the reinforcements who arrive late in the season suddenly show up out of the goodness of their hearts? If you're not spending as much as Peter, then maybe you're just doing it wrong!!! hey Donnie, no more hard feelings, too much time has passed, but just own up to it...the truth will set you free.

Obviously couldnt get it done this year. ICE TIME has been and continues to be the biggest problem. There is an owner in place who wants a franchise, bu the City, until only recently, wasn't willing to play ball.
it will be interesting to see if an agreement ca be reached. we all know there is only one suitable rink in the city for this brand of hockey, and it has numerous tenants already. Could be a tough go..

Donnie just got smart...no point in spending money early in the year to bring in big guns and play for the league title...it means NOTHING. A 1/4 year starting in Feb buys you some mercenaries who will win you games when it counts in the post-season, and at a fraction of the budget that, say Brantford, have.
Whitby are always very good from he opening puck drop of the season. Thing is, that is who they are...a real solid unit. As long as the McCoys hang around within 3-4 pts of 4th place into Feb., they will start writing cheques and all the guys who have been wanting to play now will show.
Bank.

the 'new' fighting rule sin SR hockey flat out suck...they have chang3d the entire fabric of the game...and not at all in a good way.
Yes, by all means,,leave the games totally in the hands of the officials or the commissioners...fuck that.
Teams and players no longer look out for one and other...they complain tot he f=refs and whine to the league office to meet out supplemental discipline.
it is an embarrassment.

The Blast paid a King's ransom for most of their A champ team. I know for a fact Steve Rice made more playing there than Cambridge ever paid him!!
I do get the impression that MLH teams have put a bit of a lid on the spending that went on when Aylmer and Cambridge were in the league, but there is no way ex-NHL players are playing for $25 and $5.

Hockeypops...The MLH (now ACH??? come on, that's just lame) has long allowed compensation of players at a $25/win $5/loss formula..However, the only team I can guarantee that ever played by it, or less than, was the Petrolia Squires. Every other team has, to some degree, compensated players. Most teams simply pay cash, but others are more creative with perks like golf memberships, etc. Almost everyone pays for composite sticks, skates, etc, which have real value.
There have been a number of ugly incidents in ON where shitstorms have erupted over player compensation, and players have been ruled ineligible, etc...real petty, nasty stuff. The OHA was complicit in all of it, and has left a black mark on the league and the association.
I suspect teams pay less for players than they used to, but yes, Brantford spent a huge amount of money in hosting and winning their Allan Cup bid. now that they are back in, I would not be surprised to see the stakes rise again this year.
many (most) Sr AAA teams compensate their players...despite the mock protestations of some of their most ardent supporters on this board. I, personally, have no problem with it, bu the double standard that exists over what is OK for your team vs anyone else is just laughable.
